Re: Leinster Academy 20-21

It would be an exceptionally bad way of developing talent for several reasons, one of the most obvious being that academy players often get senior caps. You’d get a big Munster academy, not a big Leinster one. Also worth pointing out that Athlone is marginally closer, over worse roads and public tra...

Re: Munster Away 26/12 19:35 Eir Sport 1

2017 : Narrative: Leinster disrespecting the fixture by sending a team of kids to be slaughtered at Thomond Park. The likes of Jordan Larmour, Ross Byrne, Jamison Gibson-Park and James Ryan (who all played that day) were clearly not ready but within a few months had all played for Ireland, many win...

Re: Pro14 - Sooner SA teams the better

That would mean weaker teams as less games mean less need for depth and you move closer to espoirs instead of rotation.

Re: Munster Away 26/12 19:35 Eir Sport 1

A lot of pre-emptive excuse making going on! I think I can sense people being more fearful of Munster than we have been for a while. Really looking forward to this one. We’ll need to step things up quite a bit. Should be a good game alright. Munster have looked better this season than they have in ...

There were actually two first choice players missing from both the Leinster and Munster sides in that game
Sheahan and Tipoki?

Re: Munster Away 26/12 19:35 Eir Sport 1

It’s probably better if you do the research yourself, at least that way you will remember for future discussions. Or you could try it once in a time. You made the claim that Munster didn’t put out a full strength side against Leinster in the pro era and I don’t think anyone believes you aren’t bluf...

Late developers being missed by the rugby development pathway is more likely when you have a weaker process. Improving standards at schools and sub-academy means that late developers should be less frequent now because they have more ground to make up. Raw athletes should still be spotted and brough...

Re: Leinster Squad 20-21

Leinster lost McFadden, Kearney, Daly, Mullen, Tomane in the off-season. Having more depth than we needed was maybe true back then, but doesn’t look it now. There’ve also been a lot of injuries on top of that and we can now expect 5 outside backs in Ireland squads (all contenders to play). I don’t k...

Re: Leinster A '20-21'

Ulster are (have have usually been) good at not typecasting their back line talent. We have loads of 6 0-2 ft steppers at 14 odd stone.

Ulster have Baloucoune, Lowry and Sexton. Also produced Farrell and McCloskey.

Re: Munster Away 26/12 19:35 Eir Sport 1

Snyman was dropped from a line out. Highly reckless and it only took a few attempts to put him out long term. Carbery did a run of games when he did a full preseason before he arrived. After that he got rushed back in time for marquee matches and was promptly injured. There’s an element of luck in t...

Re: Scrumhalf going forward

He has one start against Zebre this season. That’s one more than HOS but it’s not much return. He went from a 3rd choice who was trusted, growing and worthy of extra opportunities to a distant 3rd who looks like he has a lower ceiling with less confidence. He’ll muddle through for a while and maybe ...

Having 4 or 5 injuries out of 6 wingers is going to do that.

Re: Sexton's last season? Outhalf going forward..

What’s the downside? IRFU cash on a marketable player? If Sexton isn’t around next season we will probably have a rotating cast competing for the 10 jersey, the same cast competing for the 22 jersey and pretty well spread out across the provinces. So just like we have already and have at hooker. Bes...

Re: Sexton's last season? Outhalf going forward..

Sexton had 4 successors so far: Madigan, Bleyendaal, Jackson and Carbery.

It wasn't lack of trying or planning. But what's done is done and the question is do you take a risk on Sexton? I think you can't ignore the upside.

Re: Sexton's last season? Outhalf going forward..

If Faz wants him next year the IRFU won’t want him to retire.

Doesn’t look like anyone is about to take his place. If his body is breaking down there’s no point persisting. Or you cut and hope to muddle through and have someone developed for the RWC.

Re: Centre Options going forward

Fullback is an important position. Keenan has changed the dynamic because Larmour can look to the wing again. Keenan can go wing when necessary and they made good options for the squad.

I think we stick with the other centres.

Great to see Scott and Jordan back. Returning internationals make a big difference to our thin squad.

Excited to see this backrow playing together.

Re: Leinster v Connacht Sat 2nd 19.35 Eir Sport

I'm not a fan of this 6-2 split thing. It used to be 4-3 back when there was only one prop on the bench. Do you really need two extra forwards? Maybe Max O'Reilly or Andrew Smith would have had a bit more rugby under their belts and been a bit more experienced going into the Connacht game if they'd...
