Re: Jordi Barrett to sign for Leinster
Can’t see much point in that signing at all. We need, in that order, a second row, wing and tighthead. With Henshaw, Ringrose, Osborne, Turner, Frawley, JOB, Keenan and some good academy prospects, I can’t see the point in signing at 12/15. It’s a hell of a lot of money for not much need. However, ...

Re: Lions v Leinster - Sat 20 April, 14.00 - RTE2
Think the logic of bringing everyone from the bench and Jenkins and then sending them back home after the first game makes a lot of sense. I'd even consider keeping a couple for both games - the sun front row might benefit from more gametime. None of them have many minutes this year.

If Healy and McCarthy shifted to TH for the next year, would the four remaining still be too many?

We can just force the IRFU to give more of our lads central contracts (Conan, say) and then use the money we save to sign Frische instead of Ngatai. All good.

Some absurd overreaction going on here. We're on the cusp of winning this tournament for something like the 12th time in well over 100 years. I spent decades dreaming of winning this title. Let's calm down the histrionics a bit.

Re: England v Ireland Saturday 9th March 2024 4.45pmTwickenham
I think it is bizarre. From what I can tell, defences are heavily influenced by league and the theory seems to be that you push the opposition back and reduce the chances of your own team making a mistake and coughing up the ball nearer your own line. I think it is b*%&!cks - league has a six tackle count, so never going to be the same situation.Logorrhea wrote: ↑March 9th, 2024, 6:40 pm Can someone explain to me how a team of professionals are so scared to try to hold on to the ball for 90 seconds? We had the ball, we had control, why did we give them a sniff of it? Dont get me wrong, England were the better team and well deserving of the win, but we could have denied them it.
Usually I would understand, but we had trhe clock in our favour, the crowd was up, England had momentum. Why is kicking it back to them a good idea?
Also props to England for deballing our lineout and maul. I'm sure the stats will point othe lineout being functional, but it was sh!t ball and the maul did nothing. England won this with their selection up front.

Re: Rumour Mill
We have 3 senior tightheads, already too few if we are budgeting for lots of knockouts and international unavailability. If Clarkson bolts well enough that he can cover key big games if Furlong gets injured with only a (current) academy tighthead on the bench then he probably also becomes a risk fo...

Re: 6N Ireland Wales - Dublin 2:15pm Sat 24 Feb
What a weird example. Lowe did excellently in that instance. Gathered under pressure from Dyer, held off until support arrived and maintained the ball under big pressure. Even if you don't believe that, how is it an example of Gatland planning for his seeming slow pace? I'm not talking about his qu...

Any specific example? I agree with 433 on this. One example that comes to mind was around the 61st minute of the match. Lowe was fairly ponderous getting back, which put us under pressure. https://youtu.be/HUHGqRWEMHI?si=7yPNX-i1mhssxFwl What a weird example. Lowe did excellently in that instance. ...

Re: 6N Ireland Wales - Dublin 2:15pm Sat 24 Feb
It seems like a totally unnecessary risk to have Stuart McCloskey on the bench at 23. It seems to me that a 6/2 split would be fine if Larmour was on the bench, but if you want to include McCloskey at 23, then you really need to go with a standard 5/3 subs list. If any of our back three go off injur...

Carl Heyman was almost the exact same size playing for NZ U.20 team in 2000. Sale Sharks current have a 19 year-old LHP, two inches smaller but 12kg heavier named, Asher Opoku Fourjour whilst Bordeaux Begles have a 24 year old LHP, Ugo Boneface standing 1.91m and weighting 125kg. Sometime in the next 2/3 months, Richie Murphy, Aaron Dundon, Graham Rowntree and Sean Edogbo should sit down and have a serious discussion about how long it would take to convert Sean to a TH or LH Prop and what career they would expect for him. There has been a previous discussion on this thread ...

I think Stockdale is likely ahead of Larmour if he goes with a 5-3 split. There have been glimpses of form for Stockdale this season, despite Ulster being poor overall.

I could absolutely see him taking on Sexton as attack coach or the like. He could even make him the face of it from here until the bigger crew come on board.
