Re: Pro 14 - General Thread
Dave you can make the league as good to watch and as accessible as you like. The problem is the size of the audience. Like it or not our TV money is too small. We may get bums on seats and have some lovely talent on display but, without a large, interested TV market to sell it to, we won't get enoug...

Re: The looking forward to the Lions Tour thread
Delighted for POM and the other Irish lads in the squad. Think Sexton is a bit unlucky to miss out on the starting spot. His game management could have been key. If the pack don't get well on top I'm not sure Farrell's style will be very effective. He's used to playing behind a pretty dominant eight...

Apologies. My mistake. Carry on.LeRouxIsPHat wrote:To be fair, Mauler said up the wing, not down the wing.

Re: James Lowe signs for Leinster
To be fair, I've never seen him wear anything other than the No 11 shirt all season for the Chiefs. He'd burn anyone on a 50 metre chase up the wing and has made a lot of well known players look very slow in the 5/6 games I've seen this year. Very like Isa in his positioning, and knowing when to co...

Re: Pro 12 - General Thread
A lot of your figures though aren't really that accurate Just as an example all in all I doubt the impact would be much more than 1M per province per season Leinster generate well over 6 million euro in revenue from the two Aviva games. So you're over 5 million out there for a start. Corporate stuf...

Re: Pro 12 - General Thread
Any analysis of reducing to 10 teams needs to look at which team we're talking about dropping. So let's say the Italians are sent packing, what would the impact be on Munster, your favourite cash strapped country cousins? Attendance at Thomond for each game against the Italians in 16/17 was about 12...

Re: Pro 12 - General Thread
The ownership model is surprisingly popular with fans for something that hasn't been a success. They peddled the supporters pipe dreams of big signings, big stadia and big crowds (and often threw around the possibility of one day joining the AP, harking back to well-attended games between Ponty and...

Re: Ulster 2015/16
Yip we have some good young props in the academy and also sub academy plus a couple in the underage setups with Ulster and Ireland. There are also a few potent 10's but the scrum half situation is a a year or so behind with one with promise still in school. I think you'll manage at 9. Cooney is goo...

Re: Munster 2016-2017
Maybe if Erasmus used that approach with a gigantic South African pack they would have got over the gainline, and then been able to start playing. Didn't really work at all though yesterday. Saracens are just too physical in defence to try to purely overpower or out-intensify with Munster's current...

Re: EPCR SEMI-FINAL V CLERMONT
Hard luck lads, the slow start killed you.
Came back well and as expected you had them creaking in the last 20. Clermont have developed a bit of steel though so hard to argue they didn't deserve to come away with the win.
Hope they go on to beat Sarries but can't really see it.

Re: The looking forward to the Lions Tour thread
And then I see the bilge that Luke Fitz spouts on Twitter and in his Indo podcasts about the Lions as the "ultimate accolade" Exactly. What would Luke know anyway. its not as if he actually played the game professionally or anything. Very good point. I understand why some fans dont like t...

Re: EPCR SEMI-FINAL V CLERMONT
I see the logic in starting Ruddock and McFadden. They're both physical lads who have been picked to contain Clermont for the first 50-60 minutes. VdF is an ideal player to come on and run the legs off that pack later on. They're huge but they're not fit. Bit surprised Byrne isn't in the bench to do...

Re: Munster 2016-2017
What I can't understand is why Munster haven't got a scrum half on the bench Im surprised this is getting so little mention Greysel sic looked woeful in the Munster game but Loyd is registered for Europe too If you had a guy registered to play who was an u-20 world champion with Currie Cup experien...

Re: Tour to Japan
What are we looking at now? 1. Kilcoyne, Cronin, Buckley/Porter/Bent. Give Healy a pre-season. 2. Scannell, Tracy, Cronin 3. Ryan, Bealham. 4. Treadwell, Molony 5. Roux, probably Toner (though I'd like him rested). 6. Leavy, O'Brien/Ruddock. 7. JVDF, O'Donnell. 8. Conan, O'Donoghue. 9. Marmion, McG...

Re: The looking forward to the Lions Tour thread
Wales finished 5th in the 6N and have 12 players included. Scotland finish 3rd and have 2 players  People will go on about this for a while, but Wales just had a bad year. An objective assessment would probably put the blame firmly at Rob Howley's feet. Scotland beat Wales this year all right,...

Re: The looking forward to the Lions Tour thread
I really don't like the Gatland is biased argument but I do wonder about halfpenny and Davies' inclusion. Not sure why you don't like it. It's as plain as day and not unique to him. Woodward brought a bunch of past-it English RWC winners with him 12 years ago and shoe horned as many as possible int...

Re: European Rugby Champions Cup
Newcastle hosted thee sell out games in the World Cup. It had the largest fan zone outside of London (or so I hear). We regularly host the rugby league happy weekend (or however they call it). It's easy to get to from the heartlands - either jump a train from down south or the M1. It has an interna...
