Re: The Good Album Thread
I see Jamie Heaslip is listed in the names thanked by The National on the sleeve of their latest album, "Sleep well Beast". Also, the latest offering by Conor Oberst (aka Bright Eyes) is called 'Salutations' and it is fantastic. The War on Drugs new one is out, and picks up from Lost in th...

Re: 46 years ago today
Not all in the back line, but didn't Newbridge have four ex-students get game time recently enough? Birch, Tony Buckley, Geordan Murphy and Jamie Heaslip. Think it was against France a few years ago

Re: Ex-Leinster players
Macken has extended his deal with Wasps until 2018. Obviously he's behind Daly, but fair play to him for making himself a valuable asset. They have money, so not like they couldn't sign someone else, and they're arguably the team most on the up in the AP, must be great to be a part of that. working...

Just picked up "Dub Sub Confidential". Really looking forward to it. Seems a fascinating character - has a website/blog called "soberpaddy.com" Dub Sub Confidential : A Goalkeeper's Life with - and Without - the Dubs Quick Overview: Dub Sub Confidential by John Leonard: a GAA mem...

Re: New kit
I think I recall in that Tommy Bowe documentary a few years ago they made mention of the benefits of a single colour for a rugby kit. Premise being that by having different coloured shorts, the tackler can decipher the move of the hips and associated change of direction/intent of the attacker, makin...

Re: Toulon Fans
I'm guessing there were no Gards around? That's pretty poor so soon after the match had ended. There were certainly loads around beforehand. Scary stuff. No - Murphy's law that we didn't see any. Just shows how (to my mind at least) there is no such thing as only getting trouble if you look for it;...

Re: Toulon Fans
I was walking home on Mespil Rd after the Bath game (about 5pm) with my near 70 year old Dad, when we were challenged to a fight by some scumbag wearing a Leinster jersey, who was walking with his 9 year old son. Knew he was trouble when he was (out of nowhere) abusing us to his son as he walked beh...

Re: Leinster v Wasps
We could've lost badly today but we also could've taken a try bonus point...odd game. Agreed. The time when we had that 5 point lead to protect was real heart in the mouths stuff. With "current" Leinster you would not in the slightest be surprised if we would lose a game where we were in ...

Some new stuff in rotation on the commute: Royal Blood - "Royal Blood". Lots of hype around these guys for a while; album is very much standing up to the hype. Playing the Academy on Oct 27th. Death from Above 1979 - "The Physical World". Follow up to the excellent "You're a...

Re: The Good Album Thread
If you like your "slightly haunted and melancholy" male singer-songwriter a la Ray LaMontagne, Jeff Buckley, Nick Cave, certain Springsteen et al, you'll enjoy the new album By the Rule from a guy called Mick Flannery. I like a bit of LaMontagne but could give or take the rest. I'm enjoyi...

Re: The Good Album Thread
Eels latests ("The Cautionary Tales of mark Oliver Everett") is another top notch album from a man who simply doesn't release poor material (be it album, book or documentary). Further to a post earlier, Beck's "Mourning Phase" and "Sea Change" would be more in line with...

Re: The Good Album Thread
Speaking of bands a la the National (of whom I am a massive fan, although the last album wasn't as solid), "The Walkmen" are arguably the best of the Brooklyn-based bunch to have emerged around the early Naughties (out around the same time as the Strokes, Interpol etc.). Their last two alb...

Re: Documentaries to See Before You Die
Searching for Sugar Man is a great documentary. It won the best documentary Oscar last year and it's available online (ahem.....allegedly) Thanks so much for that recommendation. A story well told, and very much worth knowing. Really enjoyed it. Its actually up on YouTube ("Searching for Sugar...

Re: Edinbok concerns
Edinburgh (and the SRU) seem to have forgotten one simple thing: nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd. We didn't move from Donnybrook until we outgrew it, and those that remember the final season there will recall the buzz in the air, as the sense that Leinster was really becoming something special...

Re: Rumour Mill
I was at a lunch before Christmas, where Joe Schmidt was speaking. He spoke about his time with Leinster, the Autumn internationals, and the vision he has for Ireland going forward, including the World Cup. Unprompted, he stated that central to the plans of the management team was SOB. His opinion w...
