Re: Leinster Academy 20-21

Doing a review of the academies and you'd probably say only Tom Clarkson is the best academy prospect at his position in the leinster academy when comparing to the other provinces. Obviously theres bee quite a few top talents leave the leinster academy early in recent seasons but it is probably at ...

Re: Munster Away 26/12 19:35 Eir Sport 1

Any team news? Or inside info? Will it be frawley or ringrose alongside robbie. Fardy and Ryan or Ryan and dev. Back row will be hugely important. I'd have Rhys, dan and doris but will prob be vdf at 7. Has the lineout worked better while Molony's been on the pitch? It'd be interesting to see the s...

Re: Munster Away 26/12 19:35 Eir Sport 1

Brace as ref makes it safer to kick the ball away. His breakdown interpretations against the attacking team can be very frustrating. Going with JOB at 15 and Frawley at 12 as extra kicking options just became more attractive. Keenan chasing kick-offs from the right wing a la Horgan could be good too...

Re: Leinster Squad 20-21

I wouldn’t cut Kelleher, but sadly it does seem like Adam Byrne could be deemed surplus to requirements. He hasn’t played in over a year. Not sure how much we would be paying him but his salary would probably come close to funding two development contracts for Sylvester / O’Sullivan. Oh, I'd say so...

Re: Leinster Squad 20-21

I would imagine we'll see: Fardy & Cronin move on. Bent & Toner be given another one year contract. Deegan/Conan move north. Adam Byrne be given another year contract if he can get fit before end of the season. Don't think we'll see any incomings unless we bring in a IQ THP from somewhere to act as...

Re: Leinster A '20-21'

It seems like we are too eager to play this all out attack game at all age grades lately. Absolutely no structure to anything we did today. Foley was abysmal at 9. Think he threw 4 interceptions in the first half. McCarthy at 13 looked decent but the rest were poor. The pack were completely outmusc...

Re: Munster Away 26/12 19:35 Eir Sport 1

It's taking a bit of time to bed in this new playing style with more emphasis on a kicking game. I think it's too early to tell whether or not Leinster have disimproved. The need for Covid bubbles could have more of an effect on training here than at other teams. Lancaster likes to have three teams ...

Re: Munster Away 26/12 19:35 Eir Sport 1

Keenan is excellent and all, but I think I'd go for JOB at fullback. His deft attacking kicking game adds an extra dimension going forward. I think I'd prefer to see Henshaw at 13 than at 12. He's a brilliant defensive 12, but you see far more of his attacking ability when he's playing outside centr...

Re: Pro 16

It's not exactly a new thing, is it? SA had Danie Rossouw, the Aussies played Fardy at 6, Martin Corry played lock, blindside and 8 iirc. Kaino was 6'5'' and could fill in in the row. Munster have done it a fair bit in the past, selecting Donnacha Ryan and Billy Holland at blindside. Henderson used ...

Is it just coincidence that Ulster started contesting as soon as Tracy came on? - or did they spot weakness there?
They also competed on a few of Cronin’s throws

Did they? I'd have to watch back.

Re: Pro 16

Munster are good at stifling teams. They're a difficult team to break down, with good maul defence, good defensive lineout, and strong tackling and post-tackle efforts at disruption. Connacht were struggling to get much go forward until the last 5 minutes. The one low and one high tackling strategy ...

Re: Leinster v Connacht Sat 2nd 19.35 Eir Sport

I'm not a fan of this 6-2 split thing. It used to be 4-3 back when there was only one prop on the bench. Do you really need two extra forwards? Maybe Max O'Reilly or Andrew Smith would have had a bit more rugby under their belts and been a bit more experienced going into the Connacht game if they'd ...

cried off Is it dark down there with your head in the sand? I suppose it has the benefit of keeping you safe from concussion. Worse again is that the usual suspect (I'd love to pluralise it but he is in a league of his own) hailed this post as "a rational, mature assessment". He broke down and had ...

Why isn't it back on? So much bureaucracy and no room for common sense. Is it too much to hope that Eir might pressure them into going ahead?

Munster Away 26/12 19:35 Eir Sport 1

Should be a good game. Munster will be buzzing after their win in Clermont. Hopefully there won't be any positive cases to put the fixture in danger. Think I'd like to see something like: 1. Peter Dooley 2. Dan Sheehan 3. Michael Bent 4. Jack Dunne 5. Devin Toner 6. Josh Murphy 7. Dan Leavy 8. Caela...

Re: Tighthead Prop going forward

They probably would have hung on to Parker till the end of the season at least if Jersey hadn't wanted him back. There's still that hole in the squad with Furlong and Abdaladze injured, so McGrath gets a shot. Porter, Bent, Clarkson and McGrath doesn't look like too bad a roster with the other two g...

Re: Irish Depth Chart 2020-21

Baloucoune and Rob Lyttle have been getting selected ahead of Gilroy for Ulster over the last year, and rightly so, in my opinion. Although I guess you could have Baloucoune on the long term injury list as well. Tore his hamstring off the bone apparently. Hopefully he can make a full recovery. I thi...

Re: EUROPEAN CUP R1: Montpellier Away, 12/12, 6.30pm

Might be a case if staying in touch until the bench is released. It looks like a funny selection but I assume they are managing the load on the returning internationals. Would worry about the 6/2 bench but I think RB can fill the 12 slot if needed and the rest of the backline have some flexibility....
