Re: Aviva Premiership: something exciting happens

Anyway getting this thread back on point. 😇😇👼👼🤣🤣 BBC News - Wasps: Three more positive Covid-19 tests puts Premiership final appearance in doubt https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/54598315 So that's 7 players and 4 staff confirmed with Covid Wasps look unlikely to play on Saturday. Re: Aviva Premiership: something exciting happens

I often wonder what would have happened if Gopperth had kicked the drop goal at the death in Semi v Toulon in Marseille. Would they have gone back on their decision to remove OConnor ? Gopperth was never very good at drop goals. I wasn't confident as they were setting up for it. I think it would ha...

Re: Leinster Squad 20-21

It's the opposite in France. The scrumhalf is the more important player and France haven't had much success developing good outhalves over the last 20 years. It's a bit strange we didn't see Patterson at all last season. I quite liked the look of him. He seemed to be modelling himself a bit on JGP. ...

Re: Munster Rugby - Semi Conscious, the Series Finale??? - 2020/21

This Healy guy seems to have a lot of presence and composure. Can't ask more of an outhalf than to steer his team to a win away from home with a red card and 10 points down with 10 minutes left. He strikes the ball very nicely and can kick it a long way, and he seems good at bringing others into the...

Re: Leinster Academy 20-21

Thought Charlie Ryan would have been heavier than 108kg. Says in this article that he is (or was at that stage) 110kg https://www.the42.ie/charlie-ryan-ireland-u20-france-line-out-4524608-Mar2019/ To give himself the best possible chance of a berth, he has bulked up from 106 kilos to 110. But more i...

Re: Leinster V NG Dragons RDS Fri 2nd Oct 20:15

Ryan looks to have filled out this year and is man-handling fellow second rows with ease. I think it won’t be long before he is the same Size as George Kruis or AWJ. “I’m about 113 (kg) and that’s where I see my optimum weight. Usually I’m about 112 so this period has allowed me to put on a small b...

Re: Leinster V NG Dragons RDS Fri 2nd Oct 20:15

I honestly think that side is at just as good as the side that played Saracens, and better in certain areas. I also believe it is a side that would have been better equipped to beat Saracens. The Keenan-Larmour switch should have happened before now. JGP is the form scrum half. Fardy would have giv...

Re: Pro 14 2020-2021 season

Relegation would be a non-starter for a B&I format. Imagine a province got relegated and thus didn't get to play interpros the following season. The English teams wouldn't be long getting annoyed at continually losing to Leinster and Munster if that came to pass. Look at what Munster did away to Glo...

Re: Leinster V NG Dragons RDS Fri 2nd Oct 20:15

nothing they can do in this game can put right the saracens disaster. 'Get back on the horse' might be a better way of putting it than 'putting things right'. You are right. It was an era-defining game Leinster lost after being found seriously wanting in some departments and there's nothing Leinste...

Re: Leinster V NG Dragons RDS Fri 2nd Oct 20:15

The noises coming out seem to indicate it'll be a pretty strong line-up and they want to put a few things right after the Saracens game. 1. Healy 2. Kelleher 3. Porter 4. Ryan 5. Baird 6. Doris 7. Connors 8. Conan 9. McGrath 10. Sexton 11. Lowe 12. Henshaw 13. Ringrose 14. Keenan 15. Larmour 16. Tra...

Lancaster says internationals will be available for this: “But in the short-term, we’ve got the international lads available for these first two games but then we’ve got months, really, when there’s going to be 15, 16, 17 Leinster players away." https://www.the42.ie/lancaster-pro16-south-africa-5216...

Re: Pro 14 2020-2021 season

The SA teams have done a fair bit of traveling for Super Rugby so they probably don't see travelling to Europe too big an ask. Follow the money is probably the real story. It would be interesting to hear views on what the impact on Oceanic Rugby is going to be. There's talk of a 10-team comp featur...

Re: Pro 14 2020-2021 season

They wouldn't be jetting off every second week or something, though. Non-SA teams would probably have two games in SA (so one trip a season) and SA teams would probably have 6 games in Europe (so maybe two mini tours of three games each?) Maybe they could schedule SA derbies around 6N time so it's n...

Re: Leinster V NG Dragons RDS Fri 2nd Oct 20:15

There are quite a lot of possible permutations in selection depending on whether or not internationals are available. I'd like to see Keenan at fullback anyway, with O'Loughlin or Tommy O'Brien on the right wing. I thought ROL was quite prominent when he came on on the wing against Munster in the se...

Re: Leinster v Salarysins

Have to laugh a bit at Darce giving Munster a D- when their tactics were almost identical to Saracens'. A few of these pundits could do with remembering the line from If- about treating the two impostors, triumph and disaster, the same. On foot of an article about the match on The Irish Times Sports...

Re: A whiff of Cordite

Not to the same extent. Teams like Leinster, Munster and Ulster can go through the full league campaign without fielding their strongest teams and still make the playoffs. I can’t think of any other league where teams rarely or never play their best team until the knockout stage. The likes of Sexto...

Re: Leinster v Salarysins

Sarries were so impressively relentless, everything we did was under pressure. Literally right from the kick off. We had lot of handling error turnovers and poor maul return but cant look past the utter dominance at scrum time as the major factor in the game. We've seen this play out now for both i...

Re: Leinster v Salarysins

Pick holes in everything but we got so badly mauled in the scrum it's pretty irrelevant. Testament to the lads to keep it that close with no scrum. When a team has a scrum as dominant as Saracens' yesterday they will nearly always win. Shades of Ireland v England in 2008 about it. I can't remember ...
