Re: Leinster vs Connacht

It always amuses me that a group of people who claim to hate soccer so much have adopted so wholeheartedly a concept imported from Soccer, namely playing for the country of your birth. Traditionally, and until relatively recently (the early 90s), in rugby you represented the country where you playe...

Re: Ireland v Wales RWC 2011

We were destroyed at the breakdown. Not one of the players from 6 to 10 would have got into the Welsh team today. Should have taken our points in the opening minutes. 3 points with the amount of possession we had in the first half was dreadful. Fair play to Wales, they were by far the better team on...

Re: Cheaper and Family Tickets for 6 Nations

The GAA has no restrictions on its family packages except for the All-Ireland finals. For last month’s football semi-final between Dublin and Donegal at Croke Park it cost €45 for the “one and one” option with this increasing by €5 per child. So, one adult and three children cost €55 to sit in the ...

Re: TV Coverage of Leinster games

It was refreshing to watch the RTE Highlights Programme last Sunday night with Shane Horgan, Ben Kay & Conor O'Shea. No rants, no self pontification, no over sized egos - just plain simple analysis, comment and intelligent discussion by people still actively / recently involved in our sport. Unfortu...

Re: Friday's rant

Hearing Lar Corbett's name mentioned every half a minute on radio/TV/in the newspaper. I don't have a problem with the guy, he's an awesome hurler, but the hype gets pretty focking tiring. Particularly when I'm a Kilkenny fan. :? Agree, all those Guinness Hurling ads are dreadful, sycophantic, crin...

Re: Leinster v Melbourne Rebels

I'm assuming that there are tickets available on the day. €10 at the door for adults, €5 for the skobies I saw that on the leinsterrugby.ie site earlier this morning. Does not seem very equitable that they are flogging off terrace tickets for a tenner 3 days prior to the game, but sold them for €20...

Re: Random Soccer Thread

TBH, I find the link you posted compelling viewing. It's one of the beauties of football (oddly) - relegation. These American sports just don't have it, and neither do the vast majority of the rugby comps either. I know three sides go down in the PL every season, but how many football fans here hav...

Re: IRFU announcement on August 8th

What a pathetically overhyped email. They have announced that O2 are extending their sponsorship. I understand the importance of the sponsorship money to the IRFU but a "major announcement regarding the future of Irish Rugby " it is not. They should keep the hype for when they are going to announce...

Re: Connacht Redevelop Sportsground

It's interesting that Bank of Ireland's deal with Connacht was reported as being worth €100k p.a. while the BOI deal with Leinster reported back in April'07 was a €6m deal over 4 years [see press release below] which has recently been extended. It is no wonder that Connacht struggle to compete when ...

Re: Sarries v Biarritz in SA???

I can't see this getting the go-ahead from the SA Rugby, I doubt they would want to have a competing tournament played in their jurisdiction but controlled by the ERC. Its akin to the proposal of London Welsh joining the ML/Pro12 a number of years ago, all be it as a once off. But it is a worrying s...

Cheika fined €20,000

MICHAEL CHEIKA has been hit with a €20,000 fine for his behaviour at last season's Amlin Challenge Cup final, WRITES Ruaidhri O'Connor. The former Leinster coach was back in Dublin this week to face a disciplinary hearing over his conduct after his Stade Francais side lost to Harlequins in Cardiff i...

Booked Ryanair, out Sat AM, back Sun PM - Staying in Travel Lodge. A little bit of advice, under no circumstances should people book the Redcar Hotel. The biggest kip of a hotel I've ever stayed in.

Re: Friday's rant

Regarding the problem with junkies, I propose something that would bring in new tourists and also stem the junkie problem. I got the idea from a delightful little movie called "Hard Target". Excellent idea, until someone hires a rajun cajun for the hunt.... To help identify potential targets ... ht...
