Re: Zebre at home, 23 Oct. 19:35

I think we’ll use Frawley as a 10 in this block of games if Conor O’Brien is available. A 12/13 of O’Brien and O’Loughlin would be pretty decent with Frawley and H. Byrne taking the 10/22 roles. Hawkshaw has also mostly been used as a centre in the A games so maybe he would be used in there at some ...

Re: Leinster Squad 20-21

We have some tricky games in this period too — Glasgow (a), Edinburgh (h) and Scarlets (a) in particular, but Zebre the only game that you’d be shocked if we lost in that bunch. We’ll be sending some pretty inexperienced front rows out for those games at least and are likely to be light in the back ...

Re: Benetton v. Leinster, Sat 10 Oct, 1715hrs

Anyone have any stats on our offload numbers? I see ESPN aren't doing stats for Pro14 any more. Ultimate Rugby has us down for 8 offloads total, two from Keenan, and one for Doris, Henshaw, JGP, Ryan, Baird and Connors. No idea where they get their stats from however. For comparison, we had 12 offl...

Lowe’s 33rd try for Leinster. Any chance he could become our record try scorer? Probably not with his likely involvements with Ireland from this year on.

Who went in at lock for that scrum?

Rewinded back, looks like Conan went in at 5

Lovely stuff there from JGP. Basically created that try with a fairly dodgy maul involvement!
Hah yeah, JGP definitely joined ahead of the ball but no one seemed to notice so all good

Re: Leinster and scrumhalf development

You’d have to assume the management doesn’t really rate Osbourne, Patterson or O’Sullivan. Take 10 as a comparison. We have two incumbents in Byrne and Sexton, but we still found time for 10 appearances, including 3 starts for both Harry Byrne and Ciaran Frawley at outhalf. Interesting that they hav...

A whiff of Cordite

The42's description of Munster's comeback was a bit much: "History has been filled with great comebacks, Elvis at Las Vegas, Liverpool at Istanbul. Now this" They could have at least included the greatest comeback of all time. In fairness, that intro was clearly tongue in cheek. It was a decent com...

Re: Leinster Squad 20-21

Interesting looking at that list of expiring contracts. We’ll almost certainly be losing the best Irish outhalf of all time in Sexton, no matter what your opinion of the players lying in wait, they’re all a massive step down from Sexton. We’ll likely lose a bunch more experience in Cronin, Bent, Far...

Re: Leinster and scrumhalf development

PPE made a few breaks on Friday and Leinster were unphased some of the time if he wasnt immediately at the ruck. Its not the players, its the system. Weighting ref interpretations to give more tap penalty opportunities at age grade level would be one useful step. Yeah, seems like our system is for ...

Re: Leinster V NG Dragons RDS Fri 2nd Oct 20:15

I think it’ll be closer to the strong team than the second string team. We have two games we should win comfortably, then we lose the internationals for 8 weeks is it? I think we’ll go strong enough for both of those games. We have at least six games in a row following that where we’ll have no inter...

Re: Leinster V NG Dragons RDS Fri 2nd Oct 20:15

We are exposed, at LH in particular (lesser extent at SR & SH), when it comes to the top flight matches. But there will be no bailouts for the foreseeable future. I’d disagree about being exposed at second row. It’s a very short term problem, that’s possibly already solved with the rise of Baird. B...

Re: Leinster Squad 19-20

Feel for Deegan and Ruddock alright. I think it’s 100% guaranteed at least two of our back row players will leave at the end of next season. I felt that pushing Doris to 6 was an attempt to make room for Deegan to battle it out with Conan at 8. I think we can make the case for him to stay. Ruddock i...

Balls on McFarland to drop Murphy and Cooney to the bench. Probably the right calls too based on the three games they’ve played since lockdown. Good call to drop Ludik out of the squad too imo.

Really looking forward to this now, should be an excellent game.

Pro 14 final vs Ulster, Sept 12th. Live on TG4 & EirSport

Even that wing selection is plausible as Lowe might definitely do a better job of minding Jacob whilst Hugo kept the quick feet of Lyttle in check. That same source had the wingers flipped for the team that faced Munster too, I’d say it will be Lowe at 11 and a Keenan at 14 if that team is correct.

You could also spice up the narrative by flipping it around the other way and saying Munster won 58% of games, whereas we’ve won 75% in a similar period.

Re: A whiff of Cordite

I see Gerry has another of his love-in articles about his beloved "Munster" in today's Times. I won't quote the populist dribble, as you've heard most of it before. Ah I actually thought his article was mostly fine, though it must get discouraging reading the same, “No, this year we’ll be good” / “...
