Re: Will poor referees destroy our beloved game?
Anyone see Steve Walsh refereeing the Waratahs v the Brumbies at the weekend? He disallowed one perfectly good Brumbies try and blew up wrongly prevented another probable try. He was as pompous as ever and Mr Jones seemed almost good by comparison! Just watched it there now. Holy Jasus, He was Shoc...

Mr Fitzgibbon messed up both sides equally with his inconsistency! Still, it's up to us and we have struggled in Galway for years! Good luck to Connacht in the Amlin - and good luck to to the Young Guns on Friday night.

Appropo nothing very much - I remember a Dublin v Cork charity match in Donnybrook many years ago. Dublin (which may have been an unofficial Leinster development team - no subs in those days) played in green!

Anyone know of a pub in Cork which is likely to show our Connacht match? I notice that there is a big soccer match at the same time.

It seems to me that dealing with pompous clown Wayne Barnes is the key issue. I am doubtful about someone who becomes a ref at 21. It seems that he failed in the law business. He certainly seems to have risen without trace. He is rather like the cop on our neighbouring island who hit a poor guy with...

First Charlie Bird and now George Lee! Montrose must be a wonderful place compared to the nasty outside world.

Keane had a super massive humongous brain fart against YM for OB last weekend. Last ruck of the match, OB up by two, ref has indicated that time is up, ball is at the back of the OB ruck, Andy Dunne in the slot ready to kick the ball dead. Keane throws the ball into touch. Penalty, YM win by a poin...

What about the total lack of regards many cyclists show for pedestrians? I saw one knock down a little girl the other day, when he broke a red light at speed and charged through pedestrians who were crossing the road. He glanced back briefly and kept going. In general they show no regard for pedestr...

Re: Crisis looms due to shortage of high-calibre referees
Changing topic slightly, the need for good communication is an issue which some referees need to address. An example of bad communication was Wayne Barnes shouting very loudly recently at a French player, who clearly hadn't a clue what he was saying, and finishing with an even louder demand of &quo...

Do the Laws contribute to our frustrations? Referees will say, with not a little justification, that they penalise infringements. However, their penalising of infringements and the resulting scores are a major factor in deciding matches. I remember reading about Don Clarke, the former AB full back, ...

Have just watched Ireland U19 v Australian Schools. Very strong performance. 15-0 to Ireland with some excellent prospects for the senior team in a few years time.

The ultimate chat-up line?
Sitting in seat 1C tonight coming back from London, a young lady asks as she goes past "Are you finished wih your paper - I need to check my horoscope" She promises to give it back, but never does.

An AB-bashing Dubliner, in fact - although I have downed a good few "tinnies" on the Hill at the Sydney Cricket Ground!Oldschool wrote:SCG - Sydney Cricket Ground - Are you an AB bashing Aussie in disguise I wonder?SCG wrote:Pity! However, England completely lacked imagination and creativity.

"Shock Horror - Soccer Player Cheats" So what's new!
This furore is becoming totally ludicrous. I have even received an email from a TD (FF of course) promising action - as if he really cared! It's a wonderful way of shifting the national focus from the Banks.

Headline in Friday's New Zealand Herald: "Lumbering England a laughing stock". It would be great to see the AB's being stuffed on Saturday. Of course, it would be Jonathan Kaplan's fault were this to happen,

Quotation from this morning's Rugby Heaven: "Paddy O'Brien, director of elite referees at the International Rugby Board, visted the All Blacks at their London hotel yesterday to tell them their complaints over the way in which Stuart Dickinson had policed the scrum in their 20-6 win in Milan la...
