Re: The Province Formerly Known As Munster 2018-19

I don't think anyone has a problem with players who are out of contract or told they are surplus to requirements finding a new club. I personally don't even have a problem with players who want to move on because they don't have a clear pathway being allowed to move on. I'm glad you don't have an i...

Re: The Province Formerly Known As Munster 2018-19

Fair play to them. You gotta have a plan, but "We Rise By Lifting Each Other" at the moment should read "We Rise By Lifting players from others" I just don't understand why anyone would think this way. Do you really have a problem with lads who see a better career elsewhe...

Re: The Province Formerly Known As Munster 2018-19

The best and least self aware line from that comedy article is this: "Our ownership model is different, we’re run by the clubs of Munster. We are a product of the clubs, all the volunteers, all the work they do every Saturday, Sunday, that’s what feeds into Munster and it’s trying to make the ...

Re: The Province Formerly Known As Munster 2018-19

Here is a bit of fodder. You seem to be struggling for whinge material. “They came back and, this was three Leinster people, so they’d no connection with Munster, they said, ‘I don’t think you realise what you have here at Munster and I don’t think you shout loud enough. You’re hiding your light und...

Re: Munster 2017 -2018

Maybe the idea from Leo et al is that giving a young guy gametime will be more beneficial in the long run than bringing in a SH journeyman to fill a hole, which would be fair enough. The Mathewson signing is ridiculous though I wonder if part of it is a deal with Munster to give Murray time to get ...

Just because Conor Murray is injured for a couple of months? f%~k's sake.
Probably a lot to do with providing young Joey with an experienced partner.

Re: Munster 2017 -2018

As I'm at work I only had time at lunch for a quick bit of research. Interestingly 2017's Health Department Spend was broken down by region. Out of a total spend of 9.7 billion 2.86 was spend in the combined Dublin regions which I know includes areas such as Bray so I assume Wicklow and therefore o...

Re: Munster 2017 -2018

While this stuff is private, I'd be pretty sure Ronan O'Gara had a fair idea of what was going on seeing as he was a Racing coach at the time and knew everyone involved very well. Internet comments are up there with Galwey's "I haven't talked to him but I know 100 percent Ryan wants to stay at...

Re: Munster 2017 -2018

Similarly with Ryan - he would have taken a substantial paycut to €300K per season and out of the picture internationally. Racing offered him €600K - and boy have they got a bargain. Munster could have done with him in the Champions Cup. Both would have been clowns to remain in Ireland. Bullshit. h...

Re: Munster 2017 -2018

Ryan lost his central contract. That told him the writing was on the wall that his international career was finishing off, so basically he had to go then or be at a significant financial loss. Zebo's situation was different from the point of view he wasn't ever going to get a central contract and h...

Re: Munster 2017 -2018

According to Ronan O'Gara Zebo was offered a comparable wage at Racing but he just wanted to go to France. Maybe Ronan was lying but he would probably have a fair idea. I can't imagine Munster wouldn't have broken the bank to keep O'Mahony, why they didn't to keep Zebo is a question I have never se...

I don't know about Lancaster, but Sexton & Leo would be big into the much derided ''pashun' on this forum that the good Doctor will being to the table.

Family staying back in Argentina. Strange one.

Re: Munster 2017 -2018

They'll never be good enough if they don't get a chance. Guys who make it in the Top 14 are usually good enough for Pro 14. But they need to be of international standard - which is the main thing that holds onto Irish players. The three lads that moved to Pau (Coughlan, Foley & Butler) would be...

Re: Munster 2017 -2018

The Pau exodus from Munster was interesting in its own way. As Munster signed South Africans, guys were getting out. As Munster have pivoted hard away from their academy this year, effects are already visible. Well, look at it this way. Pau has benefitted from Munster's Academy with first of all Co...

Re: Ireland's Next Captain

A reminder that this thread (on the International Rugby section) is about Ireland's Captaincy, not Leinster's. Gavin Cummiskey on the Irish Times podcast today calls Sexton as the RWC Captain. S ays POM not guaranteed his place and Best is not going to hold on due to age (he sees Scannell starting ...

Re: Ireland's Next Captain

I think that it is more that both Sexton & POM are vice-captains. I don't see Sexton being a captain because he doesn't place in the pack and has enough going on without having to worry about that one. Who would you think in the forwards would you have as pack leader if POM wasn't playing. It d...

Re: Ireland's Next Captain

What exactly did they achieve? Getting gubbed in 2 finals and 2 SFs where he was as lathair? FWIW, as one of the richer clubs in Europe with turnover of €15.9m (Scarlets are c£10m - or €11.4m, Glasgow less again) I'm not sure you have over achieved. How many teams can afford 5 Ohs on their books? B...
