That sounds like a plan.
there is a 17:35 train from Nice that gets to Toulon 10 mins before Ulster kicks off.
Thanks. That's the one we're booked on.

There is a relatively easy and cheap way to get to watch the 3 matches on Saturday
Fly to barcelona late on Friday night
Drive to toulon on Saturday morning -about 5 hours
With a flight back on Monday evening on Ryanair the flight is only €100 return
Cheap hotel at the airport
Early start Saturday morning and arrive in Toulon to see our southern friends play Toulouse
There are still hotels available in toulon as there have been a lot of cancellations today

That's a long old drive and would probably cost at least 100 quid each way in petrol & tolls plus whatever the rental car costs. Wouldn't be too bad I suppose if it was split between 3 or 4 people.

Yes should have said
4 in a car
Car about 100 euro plus tolls and diesel
Still a lot cheaper than some of the other options

Just a general question as I've not done this before but would taking a hire car across states not cost quite a bit (assuming you can do it in the first place)?

Taking a hire car from Spain into France is fine as long as you are leaving it back in Spain.
You will only have to pay a cross border daily fee for roadside assistance.
Taking it in one country and leaving it in another is a different matter and I assume very expensive

I've done both several times. It's no big deal. Hired in holland left back in germany for example.

Yeah, have done one way hires across borders before....Although I do remember there being a rule that you had to drop it back to a bordering country. As in you couldn't hire it in France and drop it back to Portugal.

You can now get a day trip for €223.

Flight out with Ryanair @7:00 for €113
Flight back with Aer Lingus @23:20 for €110

If you are looking at this option or have booked the 23:20 flight home after the game please let the OLSC know as they are trying to arrange bus transfers.

U will not drive the length of France for that. I would guess it would be over 100 in tolls alone. No joke

I would guess about a third of the journey would be in Spain and that you could do it easy enough in 5 hours.

Not sure how much the tolls on that route are, but I drove from Nice to Versailles in one go (Stopped for 5 mins for diesel and a wee) about 20 years ago in a diesel eating ford transit and the tolls cost more that the diesel.

Thanks, but I think I'll wait to see to the OLSC have a bus first, saves on waiting for a train!

The tolls are about 45 euro each way and if you get a diesel car the cost of fuel is about 50 euro each way

Nice - Toulon - Nice (airport-stadium-airport) by medium car :
288 kms
Tolls : 27 €
Gasoil : 26,80 € or Super 95 : 37 €

Car sharing can be a cheap option. Depending of car and busses booking prices, of course.

I know its been mentioned before but for those that missed the post..

Dublin to Marseille on SAT returning on MON is still €230 with Lufthansa via Frankfurt (protected transfers)

Date Departure Arrival Flight Duration Cabin
Sat 5 Apr 12:10Dublin 15:10 Frankfurt LH979 4h55 Economy (T)
Sat 5 Apr 16:30Frankfurt 18:05 Marseille LH1088 Economy (T)
Mon 7 Apr 18:45Marseille 20:25 Frankfurt LH1089 4h55 Economy (K)
Mon 7 Apr 21:35Frankfurt 22:40 Dublin LH982 Economy (K)

You can hold this flight at this price for 48hrs with a €30 fee if you don't go ahead with the booking.

Worth considering!
