Very sorry to hear this. A class act and a shining example, he'll be sorely missed.

Re: Girve Retires
Just thinking about all the great games we have watched Girve play in. One of the best.
Good luck to him in the future.
BTW iirc he was first of the legend TShirts.

Sad to see him go but expected.
Hopefully he'll get the send off that he deserves.

A fine player and a true gentleman. Let's hope we can see him off in style at Grand final.
Re: Girve Retires
We should re-issue the shirts - i'm sure there are plenty of folks who would like to have one and it would be a fitting tribute for the legend that is Girve

Re: Girve Retires
If ever there was a man to look up to to see how to be the ultimate professional sports man, it's Grivan Dempsey.
An absolutely outstanding servant to Leinster rugby over the years, and to the national team, I don't think he has ever been given the credit or recognition for just how absolutely superb a player he was, and even still is. Only in a star studded backline with the likes of Horgan, Hickey, O'Driscoll, D'Arcy could Girve slip into the background.
Mr. Solid, Mr. Consistant, he always had an extremely understated attacking flair on the counter attack and is easily amongst the best in the world defensively and has scored some crucial tries in his days, most notably for Ireland.
Absolute devistated to see this man go and I think it's a shame that he didn't get more rugby this season, but when he did, he was superb as always.
An absolute Leinster legend and hall of fame'r, I hope he sticks around at Leinster in some capacity, as he still has an absolute truck load to offer the squad.
Thank you for all the efforts over the years Girve and you'll always be remembered as an integral part amongst the galacticos of that dream team Leinster & Irish backline.
Kearney has a lot of work to do if he wants to become the greatest Leinster and Irish full back ever, as Girve has set the bar VERY high.

Edit
or what about this one ......
Well his name is Girvan Dempsey
As Leinster as can be
Born hard and rich in Terenure
In a house worth nine hundred G's
By trade he is a full-back
But lost his place to Murphy
But the Leinster fans knew he'd be back
Cause he's a legend for all to see
Swervin' Girvan Dempsey
As the ball drops down
You know he'll always catch it
Unlike that Murphy clown

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!
I heart Girve but I wish him and Mrs D (and baby Swerve) all the best for the future. One of the greatest Leinster and Ireland players ever.

A truly class act, gentleman and model professional.
82 Irish caps, 19 Irish tries, 14 years with Leinster – a phenomenal career, and all of it carried out in an understated, utterly sportsmanlike fashion. A true credit to his family, to Terenure College [both school and club], to Leinster and Ireland. His retirement is in keeping with his playing style – well-timed and quietly done. We'll miss him a hell of a lot.
Re-issue the Girv shirt!
