GODMAN FACES LENGTHY SPELL OUT
Scotland and Edinburgh fly-half Phil Godman has been ruled out of rugby for at least six months after suffering a serious knee injury in training.
The 28-year-old tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while training with Edinburgh on Tuesday and underwent a scan at Spire Murrayfield Hospital.
The results were reviewed by the Edinburgh and Scotland medical teams, confirming the injury.
Scotland team doctor James Robson said: "Phil sustained the injury in non-contact training yesterday.
"His rehabilitation starts now.
"He will have to undergo surgery in due course to repair the knee ligaments but the Edinburgh and Scotland medical teams will be working to deliver him ready to be considered for selection for the Rugby World Cup squad next year."
Godman, who made his Scotland debut against Romania in 2005 and won his most recent and 23rd cap against England last season, now faces a race to be fit for the World Cup in New Zealand, which begins on September 9, 2011.
However, he can take comfort from the recoveries of Scotland team-mates Jason White and Nathan Hines from similar injuries.
Godman said: "I have to focus on my rehabilitation and target being available to go to the World Cup, which is a massive ambition for me."

Why??? Last year 9 wins, 9 losses got you into the top 4......An interesting stat is that only 3 teams have won away from home all season. No Welsh team has won away and 5 of the teams in the top 6 have played 2 home and 1 away and 5 of the bottom have played 1 at home and 2 away. Therefore we aren't really doing much worse than anyone else.Sauvignon Blank wrote:A win or bust....
After showing Munster how to win a HC final in the first attempt we will now demonstrate how to retain the HC in the following season

That's really tough for Godman and Edinburgh (and not so great for Scotland)

Scotland are fine, with Dan Parks starting and Ruaridh Jackson covering. Edinburgh, on the other hand, are f%~ked. The two Blairs are not good enough at all.ronk wrote:That's really tough for Godman and Edinburgh (and not so great for Scotland)

Big match from Munster.Don't really understand the criticism of their so called ugly rugby.I love open running rugby but I also admire the collective mastery of this Munster team. What a beautiful machine with that ruthless side to them.

Had a fairly alarming drop in form though, wasn't getting his game for Edinburgh or Scotland.downsouthdukin wrote:CiaranIrl wrote:Scotland are fine, with Dan Parks starting and Ruaridh Jackson covering. Mike Blair has been shite ever since he was tipped for Lions captaincy. He was even dropped by Edinburgh last season at one point.
Cue massive return to form on Friday!

EDINBURGH will be without Scotland international out-half Phil Godman when they face Leinster in their crucial Magners League encounter tomorrow night at Murrayfield.
The Scottish outfit are without a win after three outings and face a Leinster side smarting from their shock loss away to Treviso last weekend.
However, while Joe Schmidt's side expect to name Ireland international Jonny Sexton back at out-half today, Edinburgh have been rocked by the news that Godman is likely to be out of action for at least six months after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee at training.
David Blair will start in Godman's place against Leinster, with last season's Scotland U-20 full-back Tom Brown brought on to the bench.
Meanwhile, Glasgow coach Sean Lineen is geeing up his troops ahead of the visit of league leaders Munster to Firhill tomorrow night.
Lineen has made three changes to the side that went down at home to Connacht last weekend, giving Duncan Weir his first start of the season at No 10 in place of Ruaridh Jackson, while Federico Aramburu comes in on the left wing for Scotland's Commonwealth Games Sevens star Hefin O'Hare. In the forwards, Moray Low starts at tight-head in place of Ed Kalman.
Lineen says the competition at out-half can only be good for the Warriors.
"I've been really encouraged by both players and how they are pushing each other upwards. It's great to have two such ambitious 10s," said Lineen.
"Munster are all about momentum. They are leading the Magners League and never play a bad game, so I'm looking forward to what should be an awesome night."
Munster face Leinster in Lansdowne Road the following weekend and it was announced yesterday that there are only 3,500 tickets left for the match that is set to smash the record attendance for a Magners League fixture -- set in the 'last stand' match between Leinster and Ulster four years ago.
Leinster say 47,500 tickets have been sold, but that there are still tickets available in all categories, priced between €30 and €70, from www.leinsterrugby.ie, the Spar shop in Donnybrook and the Leinster Rugby store.

It'll be good to see sexton back to get his first full game ahead of the munster match. And O'brien has been cleared of the citing.

Re: Edinburgh v Leinster Thread
Good to see Jonny and Dev back. Hines rested of dropped? Frankly with some of the penalties he's conceded this season he'd deserve to be dropped to give him a kick in the arse. Same goes for Fogs, who I notice isn't even on the bench.
Re: Edinburgh v Leinster Thread
Interesting that the squad is being rotated and not just to rest the IRFU players. Nacewa on the bench is a surprise. Thought we'd see Heaslip in for this one also. Need a big game from Keogh. Strong front row come scrum time.

Re: Edinburgh v Leinster Thread
EOD deserves to be dropped ahead ofhi though.
However, seeing that EOD has been invisible all season, we could field 16 players and nobody would notice.
Very strong team and it's great to see it.
When was the last time BOD played in a ML game outside Ireland?
