Leinster v. Stade Francais

Post by Twist »

Should be a grand day out! I've got my own opinions on it but would be interested to hear from someone who knows more about Stade than I

If Stade field the same rabble that they did in the semi, they could be on the end of a similar hiding to that which Biarritz received a few hours ago.

On what level did that weekend seem like a good idea for a wedding??

I mean, fair enough if you get invited to someone's else - but scheduling your own wedding? Tut tut!

In my defence I thought we'd be heading to the final for another big day out. Never did I think we would be in the Amlin final

I watched the game last night, I live in France and have seen both Stade and Biarritz play this season - I think they're on a roughly similar level but would fancy Biarritz to win a knockout game between the two. Hard to see us losing this one (with the usual caveats).

This game is important for two main reasons in my view:-

1. To get Connacht back into the HC, which will inevitably benefit Irish rugby as a whole; and
2. To make a statement that we are better than this competition.

We've scored the guts of 50 points in both the quarter-final and the semi-final. If we can do the same when the trophy is up for grabs, we'll be sending a big reminder to the rest of Europe that our absence from the knock-outs of the HC is purely temporary.

Am I right in also saying that we'll have an effect on Ulster's status as Tier 1 or Tier 2 if we win?

I'm looking forward to seeing Stan Wright back in the RDS. Still a hero.

Yep if we win Ulster are Tier 1, if we lose Stade are Tier 1 (and in the HEC) while Ulster are tier 2.

I'm not sure that's true. Ulster may stay tier 1 by virtue of having been in the HC this year. Both teams would be on 20 points.

Biarritz could still have got in to the HC by 2 Irish teams winning cups. Sadly that dream bit the dust in Montpelier.

This game is important only in that if we win it, we win more silverware. I'm not really interested in sending messages about what might have been to be honest!

I'm looking forward to seeing Contepomi get one last cheer at the RDS.

Hopefully he'll travel with the squad but Phil isn't registered in their European squad and won't be involved in the match.

I'd say he'll travel. Still has lots of friends in Dublin, never mind the Leinster squad.

I think hes off home to Argentina when hes finished with rugby to start his medical career. So this conceivably could be the last time we get to see the man.

Contepomi wont be playing, hes not registered to ERC.

Honestly, stade are useless. The Top 14 is the same as every league, the top 4 or 5 teams are great and the rest are average.
Basically if we show up, we'll win it.

Hold your horses it's still 15 V 15 and you never know what can happen when you step on the pitch despite what a team may look like on paper.

Did you not see the delight on the players after they won that semi final against Perpignan? These guys are going to be well up for this! You would be stupid to take these guys lightly.
