I've done a cricket coaching course, so I have a manual about how to play every shot, how to bowl spin, how to catch. Doesn't mean I can do any of it though! And pity the poor kids who I ever coach!Uncle Mort wrote:Oh dear, you're not very good then at the batting lark? No late cuts backward of square for four? No dab to point to pick up the quick single to rotate the strike? No exquisite drives through the covers a la Michael Vaughan? No off drive in the manner of Don Bradman? No David Goweresque on-drives? No Kevin Pieterssen flamingo pulls to cow corner? No Desmond Haynes pull of the front foot through mid-wicket? No Ian Botham hook of the point of his nose for six? No Chris Tavare push to square for no run? No Geoff Boycott nurdle to fine leg to run out your partner?claire_m wrote:Uncle Mort wrote: If you hit it far enough you'll score four or even six and won't have to worry about the run. Remember keep it straight, don't play across the line, or away from your body and play the ball on length. If it's turning either get right forwards to kill the spin or play back to give yourself time to see where it's going.
Clearly you haven't seen me with bat in hand! Think Brett Lee. No actually, think Phil Tuffnell at his very worst. And I'm worse than that!
You need to get to a second hand bookshop and find a copy of "Geoff Boycott on Batting" with all the shots displayed in motion by flicking through the pages in flick book manner
With just 3 days to go are you going to the Quiz on Friday?

Beafy Botham is my sporting idol!
I met him once at LR before an Ireland Vs England game in 1989 and I was in awe of him.
He epitomises what sport should be all about, playing as hard as you can, never giving up but most of all having a bloody good time doing it.

I'm sorry. It's all my fault. If I hadn't have mentioned that instead of being at the quiz, I would be getting lunch ready for a day at the cricket, none of this would have happened.Leinsterman wrote:Threadjack alert!!!!

He will not being doing that. He's entertaining friends of mine on Saturday, he better be in a fit state for that.
To be fair to MH, he does tend to stick around a bit. I don't!thecoolfreak wrote:So basically you're like Matthew Hoggard with a bat in your handClearly you haven't seen me with bat in hand! Think Brett Lee. No actually, think Phil Tuffnell at his very worst. And I'm worse than that!
I'd like to add that I'm like MH with the ball, but I'm not. And my fielding resembles Monty's from his first couple of tests.
I don't get many games...!
