What do we need for 2015?

Post by Aussiedub »

After that game today there are numerous things we need to improve on for 2015 if we want to be real challengers for the new European trophies.

We need a serious increase in power in the 2nd row and centres and we're going to have to spend a pretty penny to get it.

We also need to do some improving at the halfbacks also.
After showing Munster how to win a HC final in the first attempt we will now demonstrate how to retain the HC in the following season :-)

Stick with Madigan. Why was Gopperth brought in for this match?

Get Jonny back. Breed some monster centres. Hope McGrath comes through at scrum half. Keep Seany fit.

We need to bring in a centre to replace BOD but who can we get that won't go to France instead?

Get moc to retire? Seriously our passing game and ability to score in the red zone have gone to shite since joe left.

Improve the accuracy of passing which has gone down hill since last season.

Make a decision on who the 10 is and stick with it. The indecision is hurting the team in my opinion.

New Manager
New Centre
New Second Row
New 9
Pick Madigan at 10 and leave him there
Game plan that involves attacking the breakdown/slow ball down
Stop kicking the leather off the ball
Develop an attacking game plan that involves phase building,(We have stopped doing this)

The English and French are getting more money in the new European competition so if we stop getting to finals we will get less money and fall further behind plus Pro 12 is losing its sponsor so whoever comes in wont have to pay big money meaning less prize money.
We need to start recruiting now for next season

Henshaw needs top flight European rugby as no doubt Joe will be telling him. The disaster of the IRFU sleeping on the job in relation to JS10 is now well and truly apparent.

Very poor performance.
The book stops at MOC and he should fall on his sword

We need centres and second rows and back-up OH to Madigan. We need to play Kirchner and we don't need to waste money like we did with Roux, Goodman, Gopperth, etc.

We will find what we want in New Zealand as far as centres are concerned but only if we send scouts that can see.

Its not as easy anymore to just go to the SH and find top quality players to come to the province. We are competing with the French and even the likes of Bath and Saracens for top signings. The only thing we can really offer now is a chance to play international rugby as we can't compete financially.

1. an improved gameplan
2. better backs coaching
3. hope that the dropoff from Gibbes to Leo isn't too big..
4. Accept we are going through a transition period.

Centers are needed. Against big, powerful centers you cannot have 2 small centers playing. Toulon blasted through the Leinster midfield time after time today, just like France did to Ireland. You need at least one big man to combat that. Its all about balance. There are a few big centers in the academy like Coughlan. Maybe they're the answer.

Gopperth is a decent player too but not what you need to win the HEC. MOC has to give Madigan a decent run.

Lets face it we have been cr@p all season under MOC, we obviously need to add some physicality(but when have we not) up front and in the backs(kirchner signing still looks weird and redundant) but performance is key and MOC hasnt improved, or even maintained our performance levels, new coach please, or someone to help him, a David Knox-esque assistant is needed. MOC's decision to not play to Madigans strengths is bizarre.

It's a good point I think. Think someone to come in and mastermind a few backline moves (& sharpen up the backs skills) would be a great addition. Would free MOC to take a more 'director of rugby' role aswell (which I think would suit him better)

New centre is all we really need IMO. Moc won't get the sack so let's just hope he works out. Kurt back as defence coach would be nice.

So suddenly Gopperth is cr@p? A team that lies at the top of the Rabo table is a disaster?! People here need to gain some perspective. We didn't show up on the day and we lost to a better team. I for one am not going to suddenly go and write off half the squad over one performance or start ranting that the manager should be thrown out after 3/4 of a season.

Exactly. We've to re-look at tactics and see what's not working and fix it. 95% of the squad are very high end elite players. I'd like a centre to replace BOD, Nanai Williams or Payne.

MOC deserves one year but we are hardly progressing, we are the most talented side in the league. But we more often that not play down to our talent.
