Re: Darcy doing the Zebo
I like Zebo but my first reaction when I read the thread title was "oh Jesus what's he done?!". Not sure how well Darce gets in with our scrumhalves anyway....
What is the Zebo element of this that I don't get? Great try anyway!

Re: Darcy doing the Zebo
It was a gag he had going with Micky Quinn at the time who used to call him a posh c##t because he went to Clongowes. It's an 'S' for Southside not a Z. Think he might have even had it embroidered on his Preds at one time too.
I like to think of Jesus like with giant eagles wings, and singin' lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with like an angel band and I'm in the front row and I'm hammered drunk!

I initially read this as D'Arcy going to Zebre, for some reason.

Also, Nathan Spooner. Footballing genius and completely underrated in the annals of Leinster Rugby

Yeah Spooner put a sweet end to some ruck inspecting by Rog in that clip by reefing him out of it

Shaggy at center, Darce on the wing.....unfortunately the quality of that pass was not a regular occurrence! Great to see Disco storming down the wing, I miss genuine gas out wide!Darce wrote:I initially read this as D'Arcy going to Zebre, for some reason.

Re: Darcy doing the Zebo
yeah Matt Wiiliams never should have discarded him when we got Contepomi, especially considering the backup mess that ensuedDarce wrote:Also, Nathan Spooner. Footballing genius and completely underrated in the annals of Leinster Rugby

Re: Darcy doing the Zebo
Matt Williams left before Contepomi joined, although he may have been involved in his signing. Spooner got injured in his first season (seem to recall him playing the Leicester QF on one leg). Williams brought in Christian Warner at fly-half for the following season (which led to the disastrous Bommer kicking at goal scenario) and even when Spooner was fit again, he stuck with Warner.simonokeeffe wrote:yeah Matt Wiiliams never should have discarded him when we got Contepomi, especially considering the backup mess that ensuedDarce wrote:Also, Nathan Spooner. Re: Darcy doing the Zebo
Spooner was released at the end of the 2002/03 season when we signed Contepomi IIRC.
Which led to a roster of Felipe, Matt Leek and Warner as a 10 & Utility back.
Its an interesting point, actually. If we had of had Felipe, Spooner backing up and Warner as a squad man, I wonder how that 03/04 season would have turned out for Gary Ella. Would he have survived? Would we have avoided the DK era? Would BOD have stuck around? Would we have gotten Cheiks in? Would we ultimately have gone on to succeed in the way that we did? Was enduring heartbreak from April 2003 - April 2005 a prerequisite for our eventual success...?

Re: Darcy doing the Zebo
AFAIK Spooner shipped a serious injury that he never fully recovered from & Matt didn't want to make it worse or risk him. The player himself was convinced he was okay. It was all hushed up so Matt got stick for not using Spooner who had been excellent the previous season. I think they wanted Spooner to be in a position to get a new club - hence the hush up of the injury but all v badly handled and it made for a nasty smell around the squad.

Re: Darcy doing the Zebo
I remember him never been the same after the injury anyway, brilliant player though. Same as Darce, I'd love to know how things would have turned out if he'd stayed fit. Wouldn't have put it past us to win in Welford Road if he hasn't been half fit. Both clubs were in very different places then but he's exactly the kind of ten who can navigate you through a game like that.
