Dear Matt, Don't die wondering

Post by Blue not red blood »

Dear Matt,

Yes we have been on your case all season and not without justification.
Let's put that behind us on Sunday.
Believe in your players and let them play attacking fearless rugby.
Nobody gives us a chance or expect us to change our style.
Imagine the shock Toulon would get if we challenged them and showed them no respect.
Yes they are 2 times champions but we are 3.
Matt be brave and look at your world class players. Let them loose and give it a lash.
Just don't wake up on Monday and wonder what if
Come on you Boys in Blue

completely agree BNRB, it is preferable that the team does NOT go out with a whimper in this match... give it a go... COYBIB

Not quite a HarryP rant (long time since we had one of those!) but an excellent post.

I agree. Toulouse showed a few weeks ago that if you run them all over the pitch they can look their age. The biggest challenge is getting the better of Armitage at the breakdown. But hey give it a go, if we kick it to them all day they'll humiliate us

As it gets nearer to time to set off somewhere deep down I have a sense of possibility, if we are going to go out of this one lets go out in a blaze of glory, players, management and supporters !. Excellent post.

I would add to that, remember Toulouse in 2006 Matt ? no, quite probably not, well I bloody do, we were there and no one gave us a feckin chance - and they did not know what had hit them. We can do the seemingly impossible again.....

Amen to all of that. Butterflies starting to flutter. Is it Sunday yet?

Mike Prendergast whose Grenoble team lost 35-24 Toulon at weekend thinks we have a chance & says Toulon are aging, line out one of the worst in Top14, Basteraud vulnerable defensively esp in outside channels.

Not sure about all of that but Grenoble scored 4 trys & it seems clear we will need at least 2 trys if we are to win particularly if Halpenny is fit & kicking say 12-18 points for them to add to their pace out wide.

Healy, Ross, Toner, O'Brien, Heaslip, Fitzgerald, R.Kearney are first choice for Ireland & these 7 players + Cronin, Mc Carthy, Murphy, Madigan, Teo & other 3 selected (Reddan or Boss/Darcy or Gopperth/McFadden or D.Kearney) + a reasonable bench potentially gives us a chance on a good day if we keep Barnes onside (Use your arms Teo no red cards).

One thing for sure is our first team a lot better than team v Dragons. Hope we can turn up physically & tactically.

Touche! I was just reminiscing over the Toulouse game in '06 last night as well. How we gave it a go that day. I was at my parents 50th wedding anniversary in Kildare and had to sneak out to the bar to watch it. Against all odds and expectations we just played with the shackles off and lit the place up. If we could only do it again! Lets go lads, go for it!!
