Next Leinster coach

Post by leinster4life13 »

Candidates? Who is on the frame? who do you think should get it?

My suggestions, in no particular order, David Knox, Carlos Spencer, Jean-Baptiste Elissalde, Marc Lieveremont and any of the plethora of ITM/NZ SR backroom boys that will inevitably be linked to the job :D

Are Declan Kidney or Gary Ella available or maybe Jimmy Gopperth as player coach!

How about Todd Blackadder, Tabei Matson or Aaron Mauger, any one of whom might not fancy life next season in Canterbury without Dan Carter and Colin Slade (maybe also Ritchie McCaw who may not play on after losing to Ireland in the RWC final)?

Mauger on his way to Leicester to fill a MOC shaped hole that has been vacant since he left.

Blackadder then, so. With Girve as his Baldrick

Blackadder having a duff season with Crusaders, second last in NZ conference, and if you cant do well with that talent pool

If we exclude those under contract Ewen McKenzie is available and would probably like to get out of Oz, but if you look at Reds under him was it systems based rugby or hands off player led (Cooper, Genia etc)

What about Mike Ruddock with Leo and Girv under him? He has a lot of experiance and has coached in pressure situations. He's familiar with the IRFU and the politics of rugby here. Is familiar with the academies and club game. Seems to be a no nonsense coach who would have the respect of the players.

I like the sound of that kind of appointment, basically an experienced figurehead who can guide Leo and Girve.

Some people have said that they hope we have someone lined up already. I'm really not too bothered about that tbh.

Daryl Gibson got the Tahs job last month. Shame.

Galthie will get the France job, imo.

Ross O'Carroll-Kelly and Bod twice as likely to coach Leinster as Leo Cullen and Pat Lam.

bit insulting for everyone behind ROCK at 25/1

Ruddock at 30/1 worth a flutter, especially if they pay out on a one year contract

I don't think they had anything lined up, as far as I know, everyone was working on the basis of having Matt next season, well into this week.

Its going to a hard job to fill, a lot harder than people think, and its not as attractive a job - at least next season - as we might think either.

We're looking for a guy to work with a budget considerably smaller than all the teams we expect him to beat
He won't see three quarters of his team until November
There is uncertainty over what academy resources he will have and when
He won't be able to make any signings of any significance
He will be subject to some external interference
There is a high bar

Remember, Leinster had been scouting O'Connor for a year before they appointed him, same with Schmidt and Callard

It might be a wise coach that would do a kidney on it - go for the job, but postpone taking it until after the NZ tour (in this case, the world cup)

Going out on a limb here but what about Jeremy Davidson. He is head coach at Aurillac.

According to the below article was in the running for the forwards job at Clermont and narrowly missed out to Jonno Gibbs.
http://www.the42.ie/jeremy-davidson-ire ... 4-Apr2015/

For those who mentioned EOS, Aurillac finished ahead of Biarritz in the PRO D2 with a massively lower budget. From the same article.

''Davidson’s achievements are remarkable for the fact that Aurillac operate on a budget in the region of €4.36million, among the lowest in the Pro D2. In contrast, O’Sullivan’s Biarritz have a budget of just over €11million.''

For comparision sake Aurillac finished 5 points behind Perpignan in a 30 game season who also have a budget of €11 million.

League Table.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014%E2%80 ... _D2_season

In 2013/2014 Aurillac were 11th in the league.
