They’re missing Beirne and Barclay from previous seasons, not to dismiss Davies, but he can’t plug them gaps at the breakdown on his own. Worth remembering they had all 3 during the international periods too up until last season.leinsterforever wrote:None of the pack are really good on the deck, which could spell trouble against a good breakdown team like the Scarlets

Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014

Yeah but Scarlet's ability on the deck isn't just a manpower/personnel thing it's a very specific coached (and emphasis) skill too.Peg Leg wrote:Tadg and Cronin are great on the deckpaddyor wrote:They’re missing Beirne and Barclay from previous seasons, not to dismiss Davies, but he can’t plug them gaps at the breakdown on his own. Match Preview
How the hell did Leinster win that match?
Leinster went to Cardiff last Friday and played pretty appallingly in just about every aspect of the game. The defending was laughable, they were owned at the breakdown, the scrum was in trouble and the restarts were a shambles. Leinster's only signing of the summer Joe Tomane has such a nightmarish debut that he made Noel Reid look like Ma'a Nonu by comparison. When Cardiff scored their fourth try another rout looked on the cards and frankly Leinster's performance to that point deserved it.

Between them (Beirne 47, Davies 26 and Barclay 17) they got more than the rest of the regular pack. You can coach it all you want but having 3 test capped backrowers available year round, that's a manpower thing.Oldschool wrote:Yeah but Scarlet's ability on the deck isn't just a manpower/personnel thing it's a very specific coached (and emphasis) skill too.

If you read my post properly you will realize that I didn't say it wasn't a manpower thing (that's a double negative btw) so thanks for telling me (and probably everyone else on this site) something I (They, probably) knew already.paddyor wrote:Between them (Beirne 47, Davies 26 and Barclay 17) they got more than the rest of the regular pack. Looking at that selection, Leinster's point of difference could be the lineout. Two lineout locks and flankers who can both play second row. After the Scarlets lost 7 (was it?) last week, the coaches could be looking for a good return from this part of the game

That backline, bar Ferg for Daly, is the one that took Munster apart in Thomond last Xmas.
Hopefully our pack can give them space and quick ball. A repeat would be nice.
