I wonder if they might add Jimmy O'Brien to the Euro squad with Tomane ruled out of the rest of the pool stages. O'Loughlin's shoulder complaint leaves Ringrose, Henshaw and Conor O'Brien as the only fit centres in the squad. They could always add Tomane back later as one of the three additions after the pool stages.

I know this is more Ireland than Leinster, but a realisation I had when looking at this squad is that we have far too much depth in the back row to be allowed to keep all these players. Especially when you consider that two of our best are currently injured in a Conan and Leavy.

I think Connors is the most likely to be moved on in the short term — he already came close to joining Connacht allegedly and we have a very similar player in van der Flier who’s only a couple of years older.

We don't have that deep a panel in the backrow. 2 players injured isn't much.

More guys making the panel means more load on the Leinster squad so we effectively have less depth.

Connors best chance is in Leinster. That's just been proven by him staying and making a squad.

Interesting quotes in that article from Stuart Lancaster.
The integration of academy players into senior sessions and meetings, then the progression through training leads ultimately to a 24th man appearance, which leads to a bench appearance in the Pro14, which leads to ten games in the Pro14, which leads to a bench place in Europe, which leads to a start in Europe.

That’s how a Caelan Doris comes through; I have been coaching Caelan for nearly four years, so it’s no surprise. It’s no surprise in the way that Harry Byrne or Tommy O’Brien or these lads are progressing through. They are the next cabs off the rank, so to speak. It has happened by design.
Look out Itchy, he's Irish

The podcasts Lancaster does on OTB about leadership are well worth a listen. He's exceptionally self aware in terms of his own strengths and weaknesses and constantly looks to learn, and also stresses the importance of having mentors to discuss things with. That might sound basic but it's not just about being eager to learn, he really holds a mirror up to himself all the time. But it's all very selfless as well, it's obvious that he just loves to make other people better.

I met him very briefly and he was really friendly, and have heard a few stories about how nice he is and that he's very generous with his time. I believe that everyone in Leinster HQ (including partners) were invited to his 50th recently as well. He just seems like a great guy and we're lucky to have him.

The one he did recently with Kevin Sinfield was really good.

He talks in it about a clock metaphor of great teams. Basically if 12 is the peak and 6 is the trough of performance, great teams are consistently oscillating between 10-2 (just before or just after the peak) and can stay there for longer than other sides, mainly by finding new ways to keep motivating and swapping in 2-3 young players into the starting side.

He explains it much better than I did, but thought it was a good insight into his and Leo's approach to youth development.

Have been really impressed with the admittedly limited glimpses of Cian Kelleher we’ve seen so far. His acceleration must be up there with Larmour with the best in the squad. Gets some power in those first few steps.

The way we’re using him reminds me a bit of how England use Johnny May - get the call to him quick in space with plenty of skip passes and use him sweeping in behind coming across the pitch off set plays to get him a few yards run at defenders around the corner (made a great break in the first half doing this).

Not sure if he can make the step into our HEC 23, but could be a handy guy to have to backup J Lowe in lower games.
Would be great to see him learning from someone like Ferg and adding raw intensity, physicality and work rate to his game. Can’t have enough of those guys in the squad.

Good post, was kind of wondering - are we already seeing the impact of Lancaster's influence on him.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall who's the greatest player of them all? It is Drico your majesty.

Would anyone actually be interested if I started a Leinster Fan Tv outside the stadium after every game? To let the fans have their voices be heard...seems like a decent idea

Now, that's a list that any Club in Europe would be happy to have. Let's relish each and every performance from them in 2020 and hope it's their best ever. With our Coaching, Medical and Fitness staff, there's no reason why not.

Happy New Year everybody and let's enjoy these great rugby times for our team.

Do you reckon there is any chance we could keep Fardy for another year, with Big Joe likely to head off and JLO becoming as Irish as CJ we technically have Scope for some NIQ/E players. Unfortunately injuries have limited our chances to evaluate Dunne and Baird at Pro14 level to date. We also only have 4 senior locks and the moment (the others seem to have 6) so there should be room to graduate the 2 boys if they warrant it and keep Fardo.
