It was eventually going to happen. Munster have complained so much about referees they have decided to give them their own

Pat Maccarry says both sides will be going into this fully loaded (doesn't offer great evidence as to why he thinks this though)

The only non-Munster or Leinster branch Irish referee on the elite list is David Wilkinson from Ulster branch. Otherwise you get a neutral referee which would be far too sensible....

On same weekend, Marius Mitrea is doing the Connacht Ulster game.

At least Fitzgibbon is not TMO. Small victories.

Is Wilkinson still reffing? Haven't seen him recently

To be fair, the newer breed of referees that they have coming through I don't have too much of an issue with. They don't seem to bring a lot of controversy about themselves which is always a plus.

Neville, Brace and Murphy in particular have had a pretty strong year. They all just happen to be from Munster.

Murphy played to a high level himself. I think that will help

Having a neutral ref doesn't fix the problem: recall the touch judges, TMO, and citing commissioners on the infamous day in Thomand park when Dave Kearney was taken out in the air and booted on the head and where Rob Kearney scored a try? Nigel could do nothing with the team around him.

I don't think refs are usually biased, assistant refs on the other hand... The Fitz was just profoundly incompetent.

If you’re suggesting Mitrea and Murphy should swap appointments, Murphy played for Connacht longer than he played for Munster.

Alain Rolland reffed one of our matches vs. Munster at Landsdowne

I know, and it hasn't been forgiven down south.

That the TV camera wasn't on Kilcoynes side of the scrum didn't stop all of Munster complainin g despite not seeing what he was being penalised for. Poor guy can't scrum legal even when he had the beating of the opposition tight head. Plus he can't listen to the ref any more than Archer can stop himself "lazily" taking runners out off the ball.

He did but he was a very late replacement when the scheduled ref had to cry off.

Pretty sure Rollers reffed us in Donnybrook against Ulster many years ago around Christmas also. I don’t doubt the integrity of most refs I just hate the position they are put in where even before kickoff we can ‘doubt’ them. It shouldn’t happen there are enough other refs around.

On Fitzgibbon I’m not sure if he was biased.Incompetent and atrocious definitely. Hated him involved in anything to do with my team I’m sure it was the general consensus for every supporter of every team.

Well aside from the ref talk, it seems like Munster will be fully loaded for this as expected, going by their selection for the Ulster game tomorrow. All front liners rested.

Will be interesting to see what we do, maybe another half and half team like last year? With a mix of youth and experience...

Wasn't that Rolland's last ever game, IIRC?
He put his hands up an cheered at the final whistle too I think.

Munster fans once again complaining about the ref last night. Perfectly happy for them to keep blaming the ref for their troubles. They’ll never improve that way
