I think they could be looking at Will Hickey as a 7, might be a situation where it will be between Hickey and Hernan for an academy place.

Of course there is quite a few highly rated potential opensides at that age grade:

Jack Barry(Gonzaga/Lansdowne)
Aaron Coleman(Belvedere/DUFC)
Mark Boyle(Gorey/Lansdowne)
Will Hickey(St. Michaels)

Unusual to have no Enniscorthy players there.

“The best way to circumvent the lack of cash is to have quality academies. That’s where Leinster are better than anybody else – their academy is friggin’ outstanding, they keep pumping out quality guys time and time and time again. I hope Scotland continues to pursue an academy system that’s contestable.”

Comment from exiting Glasgow coach Jason O'Halloran.

Yeah it's odd that probably the best club in wexford, doesn't have any professional players, while the other three clubs all have at least one.

Their focus had been on promotion to AIL recently, could be related to that.

Ah no they have a good underage section too, just probably more down to bad luck and competition from GAA.

For example they have an excellent number 8 who plays football for wexford, certainly an academy level athlete looking back on things but overlooked for leinster u18 clubs a few years back when the club underage system wasn't as good at ensuring players didn't slip through the net.

He still has another year in the academy so I suppose just not promoted early like Sheehan, H Byrne and Baird

Yeah, could get promoted between now and end of season given he is heavily involved with seniors at the min.

7's have been cancelled for the remainder of 2020, unsure what that means for Silvester/Turner/O'Sullivan.

That projected year 3 looks a bit weak on paper doesn't it?
Probably only Milne likely to make it from that crop?

Albeit in reality it's because there's been quite a few early promotions?

Yeah Scott Penny, Harry Byrne, Ryan Baird, Dan Sheehan and Jack Dunne have all been promoted early from that year group.

Hawkshaw has all the talent to "make it", hasn't played in a year so it's a wait and see how he does upon his return and what position he focuses on.

But yeah it's weak enough on paper. SIlvester/O'Sullivan haven't done much during their time in the academy due to 7's and injury and if one or both didn't make it to year 3 it wouldn't be a huge shock.
