Re: Leinster v Salarysins
This thing might not be going away any time soon...
England’s chief medical officer expects the coronavirus outbreak to “peak” in “two-to-three months”. Professor Chris Whitty added it could then take “a further two-to-three months for the virus to decline” in the UK.
Although to muddy the waters somewhat The Independent says this:
The beginning of the UK peak of the coronavirus epidemic is expected within the next 10 to 14 days, England’s deputy chief medical officer has warned.

The States introduced an 8 week ban on mass gatherings yesterday and considering how lax they've been I'm really surprised that they'd do that. So if they're doing that then I dread to think how long it might take for things to get back to some kind of normality here.

I'm stuck in london..Switzerland is on a lockdown and there is a travel ban now. what is going on here in england is nuts. they stopped testing....and caprice (the ex pop star) was arguing with a doctor/specialist on telly earlier because she found something on google. I feel like I am in the middle of the biggest chicken pox party ever.riocard911 wrote:In North-Rhein Westphalia, with 16 million people the most populous Bundesland in Germany, the authorities are advising against gatherings of more than five people.....LeRouxIsPHat wrote:The States introduced an 8 week ban on mass gatherings yesterday and considering how lax they've been I'm really surprised that they'd do that. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens with the champions cup quarters and other games.

To be brutally honest I don't think we will see any competitive Rugby (or any other sporting events) happening until September at the earliest.

I agree. This season is over and we will be lucky to start next season on schedule.Hornet wrote:To be brutally honest I don't think we will see any competitive Rugby (or any other sporting events) happening until September at the earliest.

Professional rugby teams, like many businesses right now, are fighting for their survival.
If consumers get a refund from TV channels, TV channels will probably demand a refund from the teams.
If there is no professional rugby played before September it is unlikely our domestic competition will still be named the Pro 14.

Re: Leinster v Salarysins
Doubt the Heino will be continued this season. Next seasons Heino could well be affected if the English Prem and/or Top14 leagues have to make any compromises to their regular season. European comps will be the first to be dropped or curtailed if there is a squeeze. Pro14 clubs will really struggle.

Isn't the responsibility with the custodians of Rugby Broadcasting Rights, who profit from the same rights, to act rather than the consumer?
I am certain most companies who spend millions on deals like this are covered? And if they aren't, wouldn't it be stupid to punish the source of their income in future?

Re: Leinster v Salarysins
It is my understanding that many teams are insured for lost revenue from a game or two but not the scrapping of a whole season. Someone will carry the loss, whether it's the Teams, holders to broadcasting rights or punters (will ST holders be given a refund?). Most likely everyone involved will have to take a bite of the sh!t sandwich.

tbh I think most season ticket holders will accept the loss of a few games to help their club/province/regionoutcast eddie wrote:It is my understanding that many teams are insured for lost revenue from a game or two but not the scrapping of a whole season. The broadcasters are less likely to be as charitable but I have no idea if they have any clauses like this in their contracts as no one saw this situation occurring
I have doubts well see any European rugby next year or if it is it will be greatly reduced maybe a straight knock out who knows
The national unions will have to do their bit and try to fund the professional and amateur game, my guess is as soon as possible we will see internationals played as this is the fastest way to generate income
This could be as big a watershed in the game as the sport turning professional
