tbh. Him going back to NZ just as training starts an all. Funny times we are living in, the mind can race away .
No need insider knowledge, but I’m not convinced he’s coming back
Even though he signed a new contract?
You know I'm going to lose,
And gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live FOREVER!

Just looking at the players in and out in the last 2 years. They line up fairly well positionally. Bar Josh Murphy for Barry Daly.

Some better some not as good but all young with time to develop. Exactly half of the leavers were capped internationals and several of the joiners have already been in Irish squads.

Jack McGrath.....Vakh Abdaladze
Bryan Byrne.....Dan Sheehan
Richardt Strauss.....Ronan Kelleher
Ian Nagle.....Jack Dunne
Mick Kearney.....Ryan Baird
Jordi Murphy.....Caelan Dorris
Bary Daly.....Josh Murphy
Sean O'Brien.....Scott Penny
Peadar Timmins.....Will Connors
Joey Carbury.....Harry Byrne
Tom Daly.....Conor O'Brien
Joe Tomane.....Jimmy O'Brien
Nick McCarthy.....Hugh O'Sullivan
Rob Kearney.....Hugo Keenan
Isa Nacewa.....Jordan Larmour
Fergus McFadden.....Cian Kelleher
Cathal Marsh.....Ciaran Frawley
Noel Reid.....Tommy O'Brien

Lowe had the trip to New Zealand booked in before Covid. Leinster just didn't see the need to ask him to cancel it when the return to training was accelerated.

He's going to be back in time for what would have been the normal pre season start date which still gives a chance of being involved in the interpros and is plenty of time to be involved in the games that actually matter

So Lowe had booked to be in NZ during the pro 14 final?

Apologies I phrased that badly, I meant booked as in Leinster knew he was going to go to New Zealand at the end of June, I have no idea what the story was with regards to booking flights. I'd imagine when covid hit flights had to be changed if they were booked and it was probably agreed at that stage to pull it all forward a bit

This interview where Lowe talks about playing for the “three leaf clover” gives me a bit of comfort.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Turner can do at pro level. He’s built like an NFL running back. Guys that size are hard to tackle if you don’t get a good angle and elusive enough that it’s hard to get a good angle.

But big NFL players are used to tackling running backs. Rugby pros might find it harder, especially with current laws on high tackles.

Tina might possibly play in the RDS but it wouldn’t be the same.

:) , I’m not familiar with the academy lads.

Have you seen him play? He’s listed as 5’8” and 14 stones I wouldn’t have considered that particularly big

Or maybe James White or Devonta Freeman.

There was also a suggestion on another thread (&his wiki page) which suggests that Turner has put on bulk.

Even at the lower stated weight he’s still got 10kg on Shane Williams or Michael Lowry.

Running backs are small because they are running through tight gaps and they are harder to see behind blockers. The rugby equivalent is hiding in the shadow of screen runners.

Short, stocky and huge glutes on that kind of RB.

As the defenders got bigger and bigger the running backs got smaller on average.

The traditionally big rugby sides often mix in really small players: Montpellier have Gabriel N'Gandebe (opposite wing from Nadolo), Toulouse/SA have Kolbe. The contrast of the big units with the small elusive low player is hard to defend, especially when you pick a bulky team.
