Are you sure all of these players would have been eligible to play for the eye ties? That's a good effort!

He was but he may have Italian grandparents, as many Argies do, and it's certainly an Italian surname. That's why I was wondering whether he was guessing or knew that these guys were Italian.

(i.e. the three I.Q. lads who saw how Casey was treated at the Exiles and very understandably declared for the Ould Enemy)

@Westbrit, yes mate, in spades... perhaps it's cheating a tad to use so many Argies, though... about 40% of the country is qualified to play for Italy, and there are a fair few paddies over there and all... A quick scouting trip in the future for us might be well advised, could find ourselves and nab the next Santiago Phelan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santiago_Phelan! Love that name, fair play. One of quite a few Irish-descended Pumas.

@Darce, place of birth isn't that relevant- all you need is one great-grandparent to qualify, do you not? And Everyone mentioned above is min.25%, or mainly 50% and over Eyetie. Some are even 100% Fratelli d'Italia. Now, an entirely different question would be what nationality they identified with... and I clearly can't answer that for them.

I studid this in Uni they reckon the 4th biggest irish diaspora on the world lijes in argentina, bigger than Canada. ,ore than 500,000 but clser to 2 million because lots regsitered as british upon arriving for a host of reasons. i was there for the buenos aires mayoral elections in 2007 - the names were f%~ked up. i saw one random constituency with about 5 people with the same family name as me but with names bery argentinian.

heck, even the first Argie president after WW2 had the same family name as me.

Impressive, very impressive.
With a name like Sincero, sounds like there might be a bit of the Italian stallion in your own lineage.
