Springboks swamped by Japanese TSUNAMI.

Post by Oldschool »

Thought Japan deserved their own thread.
Result
South Africa 32 .. Japan 34.
Take a bow Japan.
Could SA be the first ever SH team to fail to make the QF payoffs?

They do, but they probably wouldn't be a fan of the title.

Agree. Japan's Prop Kensuke Hatakeyama's family lost everything in the Tsunami. As for the game, well I am hoarse from shouting at the telly. One of those moments in life that you will not forget. Wonderful.

remember seeing this in the build up to the game

Tier 2 Rugby
‏@T2Rugby

@americasrugby Not all 1st choice. Otherwise Makabe, Tatekawa, Tamura, Fujita, Mafi would start. Clearly keeping something for Scotland.

So it was even a full strength Japanese side!

In a group with Scotland, Samoa and USA it's hard to see them not topping the pool - even after last night's shocking result

do we have to tell you what that song really is about?

Samoa didnt get bonus point win today; will be amazing if Japan finish 3rd and one of Boks, Scots or Samoa have to qualify for the next tournament, speaking of which, they cant take it away from Japan now

Is a sherman the same thing as a hand shandy?

I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.

Was thinking of the Japanese decision to not take 3 points and a draw - which was surprising at the time. But it actually was a smart move - not sure if calculated or blind luck. But they already had a point (losing bonus point). A draw would have given them 2 points. The win gives them 4.

So it was a 3:1 return - and if you had assumed 1 point was your target for the game at best (they had held some players kept out for the Scotland game) and if you felt you had momentum & the big SA lumps were blowing having run around the pitch for 80 mins - it may actually have been a fairly calculated call.

(Or else it was just luck)

I thought they were mad to go for it at the time as drawing with the Boks would have been an incredible achievement in itself - but then you die wondering. Incredible self belief to make the call and they totally deserved the result it was definitely the biggest sporting upset I've seen on rugby pitch. Great for the game there too!

If I were Scotland, I'd be very worried. If Japan play like that they won't just beat Scotland, they'll give them a stuffing.
