Harmless fun, surely?
The sport that unites Catholic, Protestant and dissenter has had its day of days. Pity anybody who can't enjoy it. Some day.

Re: Lovely Girls of Tralee
I haven't watched it since I was a little girl, even then I mostly watched it to stay up late.
I can see why it's seen as good for tourism etc. but why does it need two nights of prime time TV in Ireland?
Also in this day and age, when the Irish population and the Diaspora is so diverse why is it always white, Catholics represented at it? I was listening to two roses being interviewed on the radio yesterday and they were saying that going to Sunday Mass was compulsory for all of the roses unless they had prior interview engagements. That kind of thing makes it very dated. I'm not having a dig at religion here, I'm just questioning whether or not it's excluding good examples of Irish women because they're not practicing Catholics, or not willing to pretend to be practicing Catholics for the sake of the competition.
I also see that last nights show is currently being repeated on RTE.

Amz, I see your point of view and pretty much used to think the same but maybe I am just getting old and starting to take after my parents!Amz wrote:I haven't watched it since I was a little girl, even then I mostly watched it to stay up late. Ye Right!!!
I can see why it's seen as good for tourism etc. but why does it need two nights of prime time TV in Ireland? A welcome relief from Irish Prime time TV - what are we missing CSI or something ?

Maybe the rule also effects non practicing Protestant girls also? - Its not a case of the girls having a lazy sunday morning ruined by the Catholics, maybe its a bit of space from other commitments for girls that wish to pratice their faith - whatever that is. People may underestimate how hectic and 24 hour the fesitval is for the girls

Well it's just another example of how crappy and "Reality TV" filled Prime Time telly has become!
The roses interviewed said that mass was compulsory. I suppose was implying with the criticism that it seemed to be excluding non-Cathlolics also and given that Ireland is no longer such a devoutly Catholic country that the competition should move on and be more representative of what Ireland is today, but perhaps that's not the target audience, or who they're targeting with for tourism .
Don't get me wrong, I honestly couldn't care less if it was still on, and nothing I've written was written emotionally, I don't get exorcised by the Rose of Tralee, I'm just trying to avoid study at the moment, hence my contribution

I hate it the same way a fat kids hates broccoli. That feckless, smarmy gombeen Dáithí Ó Sé makes the CGI guy from the 123.ie ads seem sincere. I hate the stupid heads on the dimwitted, dunderheaded escorts. A pox on them all.

I'll offer odds of 2-1 that the Cork Rose ends up in a mental asylum ........ ahhhhh she's a drama teacher. That explains a lot.

Love that!RoboProp wrote:the same way a fat kids hates broccoli.
My girlfriend informed me that the London rose won, same as last year. But I have no idea why she bothered.
Here, who the feck started the idea that Daithi O Shea is sexy? On O'Sheas alone, I'd go for Conor, Donal, John and John before I'd give him a look in.
