Run4Mark is a fun run in aid of The Mark Pollock Trust, which hopes to raise significant funds to assist with the capital and ongoing costs specifically associated with Mark’s spinal cord injury. For anyone who doesn't know Mark's story you can read it here: Mark's Story
Run4Mark is being held on the 16th of November 2011, at 7:30pm. The race will be run at night time as a symbol of Mark’s blindness. This year is the first staging of the event which is hoped will become an annual fundraising event in aid of the Mark Pollock Trust. It's a four provinces event and will be held concurrently in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast.
Due to certain council restrictions, not all events are the same length; however all of the fun runs are between 7km and 10 km. As some athletes take their running very seriously, this will be a timed event. With this in mind, if you are taking a more leisurely part in the event we encourage you to allow other athletes to start ahead of you.
Entry for this event is €25/£20. However, we ask everyone to raise further sponsorship. You can download the sponsorship form from http://www.markpollocktrust.org and, it can either be handed in on the day of the event or after. Alternatively, we encourage participants to set up a mycharity.ie webpage so that your friends can sponsor you and donate to the Mark Pollock Trust online.
Participants of all ages can enter. However, if you are under 16 years of age you should ensure an adult attends on the evening. (They don’t have to participate!) A bag drop area will be provided for all athletes once they have picked up their numbers on the night.
Every race has a post-race venue organised. (Check individual race details to see the location). Please come along for a drink afterwards where you can compare times with your fellow participants or just have a chat! Any proceeds of the post-race event will go to the Mark Pollock Trust.
You can enter by going to http://www.run4mark.com
Edit: Possibly should have asked for permission before posting this - I don't know the Board's policy on posting news of charity events. Hope it's okay?
