I was more thinking that the introduction of water charges was the only one in your list that wasn't a good thing.simonokeeffe wrote:water charges not coming in til next year?sid wrote:One of these things is not like the others.simonokeeffe wrote:just wait til we win double, they get beaten like a doormat by clermont, water charges and gay marriage are brought in and joe drops all munster players from ireland bar donnacha o'callaghan
Obviously just a bit of ribbing in the direction of the cabbage boilers though.
Incidentally, "cabbage boilers" is my new favourite term for them

Re: O'Connell not cited
I personally prefer the Orc's, Wikipedia describes them perfectly
An orc or ork is one of a race of mythical humanoid creatures, generally described as brutish, aggressive and repulsive......
But of course they forgot to mention Liginds!!

Water charges are fine. you can just use less water if it bothers you. rubbish charges? you can focus on generating less rubbish. you can't transport your house to somewhere cheaper though.
guess which tax I hate.

Re: O'Connell not cited
I agree, and I wouldn't mind paying for water if we weren't already being squeezed for every focking thing under the sun.johng wrote:Water charges are fine. you can just use less water if it bothers you. rubbish charges? you can focus on generating less rubbish. you can't transport your house to somewhere cheaper though.

But we are, and it's ridiculous. Paying premium taxes in exchange for third-world services.
I'll save my ranting for another thread though.

Where were you all when we bought Anglo Irish bank? Too late to complain now.
Re: O'Connell not cited
For a short term issue, water charges are a bad, bad way to go. The cost of installing meters and collecting the tax will be too significant.sid wrote:I agree, and I wouldn't mind paying for water if we weren't already being squeezed for every focking thing under the sun.johng wrote:Water charges are fine. you can just use less water if it bothers you. rubbish charges? you can focus on generating less rubbish. you can't transport your house to somewhere cheaper though.

There are quicker, cheaper, more progressive and less controversial ways to raise tax.
It's the same with the property tax, it irks people beyond its mere cost (which is why we talk about them so readily). So if the government would rather levy other taxes and the people would rather pay other taxes, why is this happening in a democracy? It's almost like the Troika are deliberately trying to annoy Irish people who are trying to endure austerity.

Wow - we've had meters for years - makes you turn the tap off when brushing your teeth when you think of cash going down the drain!!
Re: O'Connell not cited
A man who thinks data roaming is a mere bagatelle turns of the tap when brushing his teeth to save money?

Property tax collection system 150million
letting the Irish people know that it doesn't matter who they elect as they will have to take humiliating phone calls from their masters if something doesn't happen to plan? Priceless!
I totally pulled those numbers from my arse. It is not a serious post in that regard.
