To be u19 this season you have to be born in 1988.

To be in the provincial squads which are currently being formed you also need to be born in 1988???

Seriously, you can be playing Club rugby and be U20 next season, yet be over age for Provincial U20 this summer??

To play in the u19 WC a few weeks ago you had to be born in 1988 same with all the provincial sides that were in excitence before that.

Pretty much yeah. A little odd though that with the U20 provincial season effectively being over by 31/12, that a player can be 19 for the whole season, and yet be overage?

AFAIK they're not? Heard of 1 person who was selected and subsequently told he's too old with an '87 b'day??

Was that with country/town clubs like Naas, etc. or a Dublin club like Blackrock?

The dates for Provincial and irish teams are 1st Jan to 31st Dec. e.g. the current Leinster Youths (U-18s) are bron in 1990. Under 19s are born in 1989.

Club rugby uses 1st July. e.g. Current under 18s had to be under 18 yrs on the 1st July in 2007 for the season 2007/8. i.e. bron between 1st July1989 and 30th June 1991.

What is the date used for schools competitions?

It is even more confusing as the Scots use 1st Jan and England & Wales use 1st Sept for both club and country.
