So he's not to like a guy who's helped out him and or his family in the past??

Odd because I though Politicians, be they local or national, where here to help and serve the public at large?

Oh no but he's an FF'er ergo he's not a good guy....what a load of tosh
He can like him as much as pleases him. The point is that he shouldn't vote someone to the national parliament on the basis of sorting local issues. That's what the local elections and local councils are for.

If the FF candidate has some ideas for the national parliament and for solving national issues that Danthefan finds appealing then he should consider voting for him irrespective of party.

If a local guy can fix my potholes then I'd rather keep him concentrating on fixing potholes than on holes in the economy.

The county council is not supposed to be a training ground for the national parliament. It's supposed to be a place to focus on local issues so that national parliamentarians don't have to waste their time doing so.
Thanks BW - you put it better than I ever could.
Darce - if the line in Large Bold letters had been beside FG, Labour, Ind etc. I still would have made exactly the same post. Don't try to see wrongs where they don't exist.

I haven't decided yet. I normally lean towards Labour myself, but Michael Noonan seems to be the most competent of the bunch down here in Limerick at the moment.

I'm probably gonna go with Seán Barrett (FG) and Eamonn Gilmore(Lab) here in Dun L, just havent decided which order I'm gonna put them in. They've both impressed me so far and both would do well governing as opposed to sorting people out with college places or selling Dáil votes for bypasses. Also the thought of Richard Boyd barret or any of his pack of loons gaining office scares the sh1te out of me!

Of coursethey were stickies, hence why they claim they won't strike a deal with SF. Both sides despise each other.

sarah_lennon wrote: Not really. They delivered a budget proposal before the budget. This is forming part of their election manifesto. All the parties will deliver the same.

Ah yes, the proposal where they said they would reduce personal tax credits by €250, thus affecting the "working class".
Just heard Roisin Shortall on the radio - she was out of her depth.

But this is just the problem that we have had for the past 10 years. We have given preference to people who have baffled us with bullshit rather than dazzling us with brilliance. The last two Taoisigh were all mouth and no trousers. Biffo effectively won the last election with spin.

At this stage in the evolution of the country, it's not about "performace"/spin. It's about statesmanship. It's about cold facts out on paper, and how they make or don't make sense to you.

Words are cheap, to most of the feckers, and mean little or nothing when analysed.

Admittedly I haven't read the thread, but I'm absolutely baffled as to how anyone could vote FF.

Then depending on who goes FG, Boyd Barrett, SF, FF, Greens all the way down the paper!

Remember folks if you only vote 1 & 2 then your vote dies off pretty quickly
I don't know if I have much love for any particular political party, but I know I despise that Boyd Barrett chap. I remember him sticking two fingers up at Mandela in Trinity years ago. Had some sort of lunatic reason for it. Made a song and dance about too, the sh!t.

Unfortunately, with the need for FF to be brought down to size and taught a lesson and the only credible alternative (FG) being led by a half wit, who the general populace just can't warm to. Then with Labour being led by a total socialist and whose left hand man is possibly the noisiest and most annoying woman ever to grace Earth (Joan Brutal), we sadly are going to see complete nutters like Richy Boyd Barrett and the Shinners do well in the upcoming election.

Watching Primetime tonight confirmed to me that I cant vote SF or Labour. Any party that puts Joan Burton "out front" hasn't a clue. She is downright ignorant.

Joan Bruton. She's the little sister of Little Dickie and John, isn't she? :D

In regard to the poll on this thread. Taking the Alex Foley's, Don't know's and the Won't Vote's out of it, the poll looks like;
FG at 41.7%
Lab at 26.7%
FF at 15%
Ind's at 11.6%
IRA at 5%
Free to Air at 0%

My feeling is that if FG had a dynamic leader, an overall majority might not have been outside the bounds of possibility. I can't believe FF are polling so strong, (and this seems consistant with the poll in todays Irish Times).

Prime Time last night was like a creche.
Miriam O'Callaghan is utterly useless at chairing these sorts of debates. I still haven't got a clue what the policies of FF and Labour are.
At least Varadkar gave some answers. However, he kept saying how FG and Labour agreed on certain issues.
Everyone knows the two will go into coalition together if they need to yet they keep denying it.
His statements last night merely confirmed what the dogs in the street know.
Burton was, yet again, an embarrassment. She should consider joining SF - her interrupting and shouting down of other speakers sits very well with their style. Her apparent cluelessness would also be a factor in her favour.
