Have you seen the wikileaks cable on this genius? Fantastic.

EDIT

The point being that this accounting error hasn't really cost us anything. The bank guarantee has. I saw it described in a book the other day (The global Minotaur) as " the worst economic decision of the century. Overnight all of Ireland's post war gains were wiped out." Mind you, all our cheerleaders for that disaster are still in jobs in the media, whether it be privately owned or state owned.

Man with 29 corpse 'dolls' arrested
Russian police have arrested a man described by local media as the "cemetery collector" for digging up 29 corpses and dressing the remains in female clothing to display around his flat.

Grainy police video images of the man's cramped flat showed what look like several life-sized female dolls without faces, some with platinum blond wigs.

"During a search of his flat and garage, 29 self-made, life-size dolls dressed in the clothes of buried people were found," a spokesman for police in Nizhny Novgorod, 400km east of Moscow, said today.

"It was ascertained that he used mummified human bodies from graves to make them (the dolls)."

Police described the man, who was arrested following the desecration of graves in the area, as a local historian and an expert in the study of place names.

Media cited friends as saying they had never seen the dolls and that he was a learned, if eccentric, man.

Police have not named the man but said he was a well-known specialist in the history of Nizhny Novgorod. According to Russian reports, he is Anatoly Moskvin, a local historian regarded to be an expert on the city's cemeteries.

The arrest follows a long-running investigation into the desecration of graves at several cemeteries in Nizhny Novgorod starting in 2010, police said.

This sounds like something out of Jeremy Kyle/Jerry Springer/the Daily Mail (although in fairness it did come from the Indo).

Rugby player who had a stroke woke up gay and became a hairdresser

A RUGBY-playing straight man claims he woke up homosexual after suffering a stroke.

Chris Birch, 26, suffered a stroke during during a freak training accident when he attempted a back flip and broke his neck.

But following his recovery he quit his bank job to become a hairdresser, grew to hate sport, called off his engagement and started dating a man.

"I was gay when I woke up and I still am," he said. "It sounds strange but when I came round I immediately felt different. I wasn't interested in women any more.

"I had never been attracted to a man before - I'd never even had any gay friends. But I didn't care about who I was before, I had to be true to my feelings."

Prior to the accident, Mr Birch was planning on settling down with his girlfriend and spent weekends playing sport and drinking with his mates.

Mr Birch, of Ystrad Mynach, South Wales, said: "Suddenly I hated every thing about my old life. I didn't get on with my friends, I hated sport and found my job boring.

"I started to take more pride in my appearance, bleached my hair and started working out. I went from a 19st skinhead, to a 11st preened man.

People I used to know barely recognised me and with my new look I became even more confident."

He retrained as a hairdresser and now lives with his partner Jack Powell, 19, above the salon he works in.

Two years ago it was reported that Alan Brown, from Malvern, Worcestershire, woke from a stroke to find he was able to paint and draw in incredible detail, despite no previous evidence of the skill.

The father of three said the experience must have 'flicked a switch' in the creative part of his brain.

And Mr Birch certainly has no regrets about his transformation. 'I'm nothing like the old Chris now but I wouldn't change a thing,' he said.

"I think I'm happier than ever, so I don't regret the accident.

Stroke Association spokesman Joe Korner said: "During recovery the brain makes new neural connections which can trigger things people weren't aware of, such as accent, language or perhaps a different sexuality."

He was interviewed on 5 live this morning. Apparently him and the fiancee split up about a month before his stroke.

Having treated enough stroke patients I'd say anything is possible. Or given the guys age it could just be coincidence.

2% wow if that's real it'll really affect the already seriously down levels of domestic comsumption, not to mention the fact that the world economy appears to be slowing which will eventually hit our admitidly great export growth.

Basically we're headed for a situation where we pay slightly over 1/5 again of the price of an item in tax to 1/4. Maddness.

From this morning's Irish Times (the same paper that is now reporting the German discussion of the VAT rate hike as a budget leak):
The memorandum of understanding with the EU-IMF-ECB troika was specific in relating to new taxes. It has specified an increase in the top rate of VAT to 23 per cent (which will garner €670 million); the imposition of property charges (the new €100 household charge will yield €160 million); and an increase in carbon taxes (a €5-per-tonne increase will yield €108 million).

The Germans are loving all this. Total domination of the Eurozone. Their puppet Governments installed in Greece and Italy already, and their overwhelming influence on other Governments to bend to their will. We are slowly but surely seeing the death of nation state democracy to become part of a Franco-German Federal superstate.

Shagger, I've no problem with you letting fly at the public/civil service as long as its informed and realistic. After all, freedom of speech is the essence of democracy.
