No, actually it won't do that. It's €2.30 if you have to ask the driver for 13 stages. €2.20 if you use the validator. Either way it's too high because the Travel 90 smartcard works out at €1.90 per journey (and works across multiple journeys).

Another mistake is that if you're approaching the end of a journey, it will still charge full fare.

The simple principle of Smart Cards (if they are supposed to live up to their name) is that they're supposed to charge you the lowest fare for any journey. If they overcharge and customers are forced to queue up anyway, then the entire purpose is redundant. At no stage in the smartcard systems in Ireland have they ever shown any interest in adhering to this principle.

How do I use my Leap Card on Dublin Bus services?
On scheduled Dublin Bus services where Staged Fares are charged you have two options for payment:
•If you are paying for 1 to 3 stages, 4 to 7 stages, 8 to 13 stages or the City Centre Fare you should place your Leap Card on the drivers Validator and state your destination. The driver will then deduct the appropriate fare from the Travel Credit on your card. No paper ticket will be issued. If you wish to pay for a companion, the driver will issue you with a ticket for their journey.
•If you are paying for a fare of over 13 stages or Outer Suburban you should Touch On at the Smartcard Validator on the right hand side as you enter the bus. The default fare of €2.20 will be deducted from your Travel Credit.

An how are we going to be sure that the Driver has debited the correct fare, and not as Dublin Bus Management will be asking them to do, and that is ripping us off by debiting a higher fare price at every opportunity. It sure is a fraudulent way of getting their 25% fare increase in. What a rank corrupt society we live in.

It's really simple, if you're a regular (once a week plus, but not a taxsaver) user of the bus then you should go down the shops and clear them out of Travel 90 10 journey smartcards. €3 per 10 journeys.

They have to pay for those trips to Singapore, Melbourne and Hong Kong with stays in 5 star hotels, when they were doing their research. I will just continue to use the Travel90 and Rambler tickets rather than be ripped off. I suspect that many people will have no idea that they will be stitched up when they use their dumb card for short journeys and multi service journeys. You really couldn't make this sort of cr@p up, and still be considered as progressive society. This has all the hallmarks of a committee decision with no regard to what people want, and is a far away from European Cities Public Transport ticketing best practices as you can get. Just re-inforces my perception of the higher up the Managerial ladder you go, the thicker you become, because you have to have a serious set of bozo's to come up with such a dog's dinner of a set up as this "smart" card is.

I can testify that the "Discounts" line, on the leap card, is a load of b*%&!x.

I saw the new fares advertised on the bus this morning. The leap card fare is up 5-10 cent on what you currently pay. However, there are huge penalties for those paying cash.
e.g. the Current €1.65 fare will increase to €1.70 for leap card users, but for those paying cash it's being increased up to €1.95.

No. They are supposed to be adding them to the Leap Card in the future. All the time they have had to introduce these at the start and they failed to do it. Morons.
