Aungier has a lot of improving to do IMO. He's mobile but rarely seems to be the carrier he was in school and the odd time for the 20's. I do think he has the ability to impose himself more, but he just doesn't do it. Might be an odd comparison but he reminds me a bit of Brendan Macken in prop form. His scrummaging has always been poor. When he was in school he relied on power rather technique but he's not the kind of physical freak who can keep that going through the ranks. I've seen him at club level a few times as well and always seemed to struggle.wixfjord wrote:Interesting that Salanoa gets the bench spot, wasn't Aungier training this week?
Wonder is that a nod to Salanoa to get him to stay? Huge potential but a lot of moulding to be done on him!
For me, Salanoa showed far more in his two brief cameos than Aungier has in ages. His scrummaging technique isn't great either but he is the type of freak to get away with it because of his power. Really hope that the Connacht rumours aren't true, he has great potential and think the role he has right now really suits his development. Himself and Clarkson (if he ever goes for less than 80 minutes) could dovetail really nicely in the league.
