It's a fitness test with relatively little transfer to rugby.mildlyinterested wrote:Apparently a Leinster academy scrumhalf(PP?) did the bronco test in 4.06 mins
Proves your aerobic fitness but has no relation to passing ability, decision-making etc.
Just something that Aus/NZ rugby has a horn for.

Sorry it wasn't directed at you directly rather than the fascination with broncos and Barrett's time because there's f*** all else to talk about for media/fans.mildlyinterested wrote:Didnt say otherwiseMorf wrote:It's a fitness test with relatively little transfer to rugby.mildlyinterested wrote:Apparently a Leinster academy scrumhalf(PP?) did the bronco test in 4.06 mins

Wouldn’t say he’s too big as his brother Dan Sheehan is bigger than himmildlyinterested wrote:Do you rate him? or is he too big?Ruckedtobits wrote:Bobby Sheehan is every cm of his Statsneiliog93 wrote:That's terrifying, he looks very good value for the 196 cm height listing in that pic..

If you know anything about rugby or did any rugby training during the professional era you would know that fitness is the most important aspect of the game now days, no point being talented if you have no work rate, they hardly do it for no reason if it has little transfer to rugbyMorf wrote:It's a fitness test with relatively little transfer to rugby.mildlyinterested wrote:Apparently a Leinster academy scrumhalf(PP?) did the bronco test in 4.06 mins

Those stats aren’t always reliable, judging by that photo Dan Sheehan is bigger than him in terms of muscle mass and looks a lot stronger than him. Dan looks heavier than him aswell and there’s not much between their height judging by that picture

Re: Leinster Academy 19/20
Looks bigger to me, at least height wise.
It's certainly a question about both brothers in regards to their unusual size for the position, Dan said his scrum height is his biggest work on, so safe to say Bobby has same issue as he is taller.

https://www.leinsterrugby.ie/academy-ho ... ow-skills/“Scrummaging has always been my main ‘work-on’, the big issue when it came to my height, developing from the schools and amateur levels into professional rugby,” said Sheehan.
“I have learned there are different ways you can use your physical size to your benefit from working with John Fogarty and Robin McBryde this year.
“It is all about the set-up before engagement, getting my height down to the same level as the two props either side of me to work into a space where I can get my feet to the position where I want to get to, to be able to launch the scrum. It isn’t an issue anymore. But, it is something I have to always work on.”

It's an issue however for the second rows in trying to get a shove on, if the hooker is much taller than his props and his bum is correspondingly further back than theirs.

Re: Leinster Academy 19/20
With the Sheehan brothers and Lee Barron theres a bunch of taller hookers coming through system, either by design or coincidence, RK is hardly short by hooker standards either.
Re: Leinster Academy 19/20
Doesn't a more French-style arrow scrum suit a taller hooker?
Feel free to add detail here because being led by the hooker slightly ahead is my limited awareness of it.

Re: Leinster Academy 19/20
This sort of conversation always comes up regarding fitness work in rugby, particularly the bronco and bench press. The reason they get so much attention is because they're easy to relate to. And yes fitness is important but playing rugby is a different type of fitness to being able to run 10k. That said the bronco is a better indicator than most since it involves sharp turns, which is part of what makes it hard.Pilotman123 wrote:If you know anything about rugby or did any rugby training during the professional era you would know that fitness is the most important aspect of the game now days, no point being talented if you have no work rate, they hardly do it for no reason if it has little transfer to rugbyMorf wrote:It's a fitness test with relatively little transfer to rugby.mildlyinterested wrote:Apparently a Leinster academy scrumhalf(PP?) did the bronco test in 4.06 mins

The bronco itself does have little transfer to rugby but its what you do around it that makes the results of interest to rugby and rugby fitness coaches

Probably 6'4 and no that's very unlikely, he is one of the stranger inclusions in the squads in recent years as he didn't make Michaels SCT squad for the cup after starting most of their friendlies precup.neiliog93 wrote:How tall is Cameron Baird and might he be as good/athletic as Ryan Baird?
