I'd be inclined to think that the suppression of speech is far more harmful than
allowing unpleasant views to be aired.
If you libel/slander someone then there may be consequences for you. Other
than that there shouldn't be any limits at all, in my view.

I think Europe's take on free speech is correct when compared to the shitshow that is the USA. Hate speech and incitement of violence is not legal here, I like that.

I'm pretty well covered on that thanks.

You on the other hand don't understand contracts. Or that social media neither guarantee nor offer free speech.

Thanks for playing though Tom!

Underlying "Hate Speech" legislation is the idea that "other" people won't be able to see through it the way we can and must be protected lest they and society go bad. 433 and peg leg can see the hate speech some Americans come out with for what it is, but many Americans aren't as clever as you. Therefore laws are needed to protect those people. It's both patronising and and simultaneously oppressive. It appeals to the type of people who feels modern and enlightened and believe that their views and opinions are axjomatic but fragile andneed to be protected.
The type of person who in previous time supported the burning of books and even of dangerous heretics at the stake.

Quite a few far right extremists around these days. English and Irish people need to wake up and realise that the reasons we didnt have fascist governments in the 30s amount to coincidences and luck. We're not special.

From the BBC:
Chat about football or cricket in the workplace should be curtailed, a management body has warned.
Chartered Management Institute head Ann Francke said sports banter can exclude women and lead to laddish behaviour such as chat about sexual conquests.
"A lot of women, in particular, feel left out," she told the BBC's Today programme.
"They don't follow those sports and they don't like either being forced to talk about them or not being included."
"I have nothing against sports enthusiasts or cricket fans - that's great," she said.
"But the issue is many people aren't cricket fans," she added, arguing bosses should crack down on sports banter.
Ms Francke is concerned that discussing football and, for example, the merits of video assistant refereeing (VAR) can disproportionately exclude women and divide offices.
"It's a gateway to more laddish behaviour and - if it just goes unchecked - it's a signal of a more laddish culture," she said
"It's very easy for it to escalate from VAR talk and chat to slapping each other on the back and talking about their conquests at the weekend."
Nevertheless, Ms Francke does not think sports chatter should be banned, just moderated.
She said that good managers should be inclusive and ensure that everyone in their team feels comfortable.

Have you ever seen Leo swing a cricket bat? Those from the sub-continent tend to prefer that as their sporting instrument of choice.

Is the rotunda part of the "sub-continent" now?

Might want to reconsider your post. Even if it was factually accurate.

I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

I almost completely missed this the first time around – I heard some references in Japan to 'sending it' and 'Koh-Samui Cup', but I didn't realise it was as glorious as this. God bless those brave boys.

There are so many different aspects to Leinster rugby, you could fill a page with musings every morning.
